Steele has been suddenly sadden- ed when Buster Brown, the local drayman, was found unconscious last Wednesday afternoon b} a neighbor near whose home Brown had ben unloadirig some stuff. It is thought that he had a stroke of apoplexy, the result of a sharpnel wound received in the late war. Sunday he was taken to Fargo, and later to Fort Snelling, where he will have the care of government physicians. Dale Goldsmith stopped in Steele en route home from his school over Sunday. A dangerous prairie fire was started nine miles northwest of Steele Monday afternoon. Many Steele people hurried out in autos and the fire’s advance was checked. Some haystacks were burned. Monday morning the fire depart- ment of Steele hung an electric f:re alarm where the old fire bell used to hang. It is being arranged co that when central is called at the telephone office reporting a fire, she may set the fire alarm vinging from her desk. This is a great im- provement over the oid bell, be- cause often that could not be heard in strong wind. Both Sunday schools of the Pres- byterian and Methodist churches rendered Easter progranis Sunday morning, and special Easter mvsic was rendered at the Methodist church in the evening by the choir. One of the mest important events happening in Steele will be the band concert by the Steele high school band, on April 17th. Dr. Prescott, the bandmaster, has ur- = ranged a splendid program. So great has been the rust on the part of the farmers that yrac- tically every new tractor in Steele implement shops has been taken out on the farms, and one sees more tractors at work than teams.
