At this ‘point the examination was adjourned to wait the arrival of more witnesses. hanes NO EXCITEMENT While there are quite a number of | farme?s in the city who are greatly interested in the removal proceedings, there is no excitement whatever but considerable speculation as to Why, if the evidence in support’ of the charges | ig So overwhelming, that: James Mana- hen, recognized leading: legal light’ of the league, should be sent here to con- duct a case that, according to state ments of those most interested in the removal of these officers, would con- viet without the purpose of such .| promineng people. DAWSON \CONFIRMED Cc. L. Dawson, who was appointed by the county commissioners actifs state’s attorney during the suspension ef R. F, Gallagher, today received the indorsement of his appointment by the governor, Some days ago Mr. Dawson received a letter from the governor asking if he was a member of the firm of Keohane & Jones who have been re- tained for defendants in the Bowen murder trial, intimating if such was the case he would be unable-to proper- ly prosecute the case against the men who are charged with the killing of Bowen. Mr. Dawson replied that he was not a member of this law firm, and that should his appointment be confirmed he would prefer, owing to nse, not to act as prosecutor in that trial next December. All this, of course, upon the presumption that Gallagher would, be permanently removed. In his letter to Dawson the governor adopts his suggestion and intimates that it would be best to appoint. an as; sistant to handle the Bowen case, or have the county commissioners appoint a special attorney for that work. Th confirmation of attorney Dawson’s ap- pointment is giving general satisfac- tion, he being a returned soldier and well qualified as an attorney for the position.
