It was pointed out that a 50 foot bridge was unnecessary because none of the river traffic at this’ poitttdis of a type that would have the slightest difficulty in passing under a 32 1-2 foot bridge. Besides this feature, it was also reported that the higher | bridge would require steep grades as approaches to both ends, the bridge itself being about 25 feet higher than Main street of this city which will un directly to the bridge. The tent- ative plan of the bridge provides for three piers one on each side of the river and one in the center, with two 404 foot spans. The roadway will be 23 feet wide. A portion of the expense is being ‘horne by the cities of Mandan and Bismarck, Morton and Burleigh coun- ty and state and federal government Counties through which the Red Trail passes, in practically every instance, have stated that they would be willing! to contribute a portion, approximately 39 percent, of the amount furnished by the federal government for federal aid for their county roads toward the canstruction of the bridge. In this manner the amount necessary for the construction of the bridge, estimated at $1,000,000 will be obtained. It is hoped that actual construction of the three piers and the approaches to the proposed bridge will be start- ed next summer. It is estimated that the bridge will not be completed be- fore 1921.
