Aug. 14:—The ‘credit for the first mobile operating unit_in the world goes to American genius. An operating room on wheels, cap- able of being rushed up to-within five miles of the front line in any direc- tion at any time, is an achievemen: of great: importance in keeping up with a rapid advance of a fighting force. ; It is impractical as we]]'as danger- ous to transport‘ seriously woundea men’ over shell-torn ground for any great distance. to keep pace with a steadily progress. ing army. In- stead of waiting for battle-victims to be brought to it for treatment. it goe- to them. / i Its equipment is as ‘complete as modern science can construct. Sur geons and nurses head its personne:. The nurses are women of special; skill and coolness. The-unit consists of five sections— @ power truck, sterilizing truck, oper- ating tent truck, surgical supply and drug trucks. There are. also four trailers—electric light and X-ray, kitchen, provision and storage. In aa- dition, the unit is strengthened by a ‘Wleet of ten light trucks carrying tent- age, water, fuel, operating and repair parts and means of communication.
