Poet’s Dreamland, Where Cares Are Forgotten Many Villages Are Distributed Through County Beltrami county has a number of ‘villages and settlements distributed throughout the county so as to be -accessible to any of the farming cim- munities. The following are short descrip- tlons of several of these settlements and villages: Blakeslee Siding, Anderson Siding and Marsh Siding are in a fine farm- ing community, with considerabe va- cant state and private land, from $5 to $25 per acre. Soil is sandy loam. Werner—On beautiful Campbell lake. Gateway to Turtle Lake basin, surrounded by good state and private lands. Mostly hardwood. Natural meadows. PUPOSKY—On banks of Puposky lake in heart of rich farming commu- nity; lands covered with heavy growth of hardwood timber. Hotel, blacksmith shop, two stores, post- office, sawmills, church. Large body of state land east of village. Neeley and Lemloh Sidings—Ship- ping points for large quantities of farm and timber products. NEBISH—Twenty-five miles north of Bemidji, in the heart of fertile clay country, easily placed under cultiva- tion, platted for colonization pur- poses. This will be a great potato, corn and grass producing center. There are two stores, lumber yard, postofiice, hotel, four wholesale cedar yards, bank, and good roads. Over 300,000,000 feet of virgin white and Norway pine surrounds Nebish colony lands, and this will be the center of large logging operations for next few years. REDBY—Termmal of M. R. L. & M. Ry. (the “Red Lake Line”). On banks of Red Lake. Has church, school house, postoffice, two hotels and three stores in center of much cedar operations. Place to go. for recreation in the white pine forests, and opportunity to study Indians’ ways and life. Quiring, Cormant Valley, Foy, Shotley, Washkish are country trad- ing points. These twons are in well- settled communities, along the south and east shores of Red Lake, where the dairy industry is well advanced. RIVERSIDE—On Lake Bemidji and Mississippi river 4 miles from Bemidji, Suburb of 5-acre summer homes and fruit farms; fruit orchards, poultry raising and pearl fishing, boating. Choice water frontage, $25 to $50 per acre. LAVINIA—On northeast shore ot Lake Bemidji, 6 miles out. One of best cottage resorts in northern Min- nesota. Three stores, postoffice, school, church, two saw- mills and a lath mill, two hotels, blacksmith shop. Largest wood-ship- ping station on G. N. Ry. SOLWAY—In center of fine farm- | ing community, part good hardwood timber - 1ands, ‘easily cleared, some sandy loam ' lands. Has hotel, church, school, three stores, etc. At Wilton, G. N. Branches off and extends 20 miles north to Island Lake, Long Lake and Spaulding being on line. This is well-settled, fertile farming and dairying district. SCRIBNER—New station, 2 miles north of Wilton, with good roads, and is first station on *“Soo” west of Be- midji. PINEWOOD—Several stores, hotel and livery barn. Is the outlet for extensive farming and dairying dis- trict to north. (There is a large body ot sta.t.e and: private land surrounding the towns of Pinewood, Solway and Wilton, and along the Wilton & Northern Ry., with natural meadows, mixed hard- |Wood and jackpine, from $5 to $20 per acre.) County Famed For Beautiful Lakes And Rivers Beltrami county is famed for its beautiful lakes and rivers, in which abound nearly every known variety of fish that inhabit fresh waters. There are many splendid summer re- sorts. Here is a list of lakes and resorts and towns adjacent: From Bemidji and Lavinia—Grand Forks Bay, Royal Beach, Chataqua Beach, Birchmont Beach, Bemidji Beach, Oakwood, Lakeside, Lavinia, Oakdale and Riverside colonies; Lakes Bemidji and Irving, Little and Bigl From Wilton—Gnat, Bootleg and Bass lakes, Long lake, Carr lake, Marquette lake Lake Plantagenet (with the famous Jester Farm re- sort), and the Big Turtle chain of lakes. There is a splendid auto road form Bemidji to the famous Itasca State Park, 32 miles distant, making this city the most convenient point from which to reach the park. From Turtle River and Farley— Point Comfort and Speing Ifill colon- ies, on Turtle River lake:Mackinac Island colony on Big Turtle Lake, and the chain of seven lakes tributary. From Tenstrike—PEig and Little Gull lakes and two Twin Bass lakes. From Blackduck—Blackduck, Gil- stead and Rebedew lakes. From Hines—Famous summer resort. From Kelliher—Points on Upper and Lower Red Lakes and Battle river. Rebedew Mahnomen lakes. From Werner—Campbell, Long, Moville, The Turtle lakes, Fox, Black, Three Island and Gnat lakes. From Puposky—Puposky and Julia lakes, and the Continental Divide rest resort Buena Vista. From Nebish—Nebish, Maple, Bass, Ten-Mile and Whitefish lakes. From Redby—All points, by boat, on Upper and Lower Red Lakes. Baudette—All points on Rainy river, and.fishing villages and beauti- ful islands in Lake of the Woods.
