B. Wheelock, missing Colfax State bank cashier, was taken from the Des Moines river near here. After writing a farewell letter to his wife he went to the river at'a lonely spot, removed his hat and coat, filled a sack with 100 pounds of stones and rock, tied it around his neck and walked into the water. Those in charge of the bank found nothing wrong with its affairs, although k[ loans tataling $20,000 had been made to merchants who are slow to pay.
