aceite: meen “TAH AVENUE BE RELOCATED FO ls HUSON PERS Hylan Regime May Carry Out Project Once Advo- cated by Mitchel. The relocation and widening of 12th Avenue, which was originally pro- Pesed by the Mitchel Administration as part of the since abandoned river front railroad plan, is scheduled for consummation by Mayor Hylan's Ad Ministration as necessary for the con struction of big piers. A resolution approving the maps will come before the Board of Estimate at the Dec, 8 meeting. As proposed on July 28, 1916, the plan culled for the acquisition of pri- vate property on the cast side of 12th Avenue from 42d to 51st Streets, and extending 12th Avenue on a curved Sime eastward, thereby affording room on the water line for the building of large piers, The 42d Street and Grand Street Ferry Railway Company, which owns & car burn on the east side of 12th Avenue extending from 42d to 43d Streets, objected, however, to con- demnation of tts property, advancing the ground that it was used for a public purpose, and therefore was not subject to condemnation proceedings, The courts sust its stand The city authorities have obviated the difficulty by preparing a map ex- tending 12th Avenue from 48d to 5Sist Streets. The proceedings for acquir- ing title to the new 12th Avenue pro- ject deal with the condemnation and acquisition of 159,700 square feet of Jand, upon which fourteen buildings encroach. The Dock Department plans to build two more pliers, exch 1,000 feet tone and 150 feet wide, and with slips each 360 fect wide, The whole undertak- ing will cost several miilion dollars. After the map is approved the city will proceed to condemn the property needed. ———— com TION.
