HOUSE TO TAKE UP GHARGES AGAINST DAUGHERTY DE. ommittee Asks Keller to Be Ready With Impeach- ment Details. antl-t Th tive termy ing o¢ est fn made phase Every auto owner planning a Satur- @ay or Sunday tour should be in possession of the very last word on road conditions before making a final decision. By arrangement with O. M ‘Wells, Chief Roadman of the Auto- mobile Club of America, The Evenina World on Friday of each week will print a special article on tours that cannot fail to prove of incalculable value to owners. Save yourself the troubles, breakdowns and kindred veeations by consulting The Evening World maps and facts about roads. By O. M. Wells. (Chief Roadman of the Automobile Club of America) ‘Taking up our route south from the point which we left off last week (from Augusta on the Atlantic Const Line ani Atlante on the interior route) we will endeavor to sive a resume of road conditions exactly as they are. For the past three yeara, due to the transportation across the Alta- maha River being closed—it is now bridged over—it was necessary for motorists on reaching Augusta to cross over to the interior trunk Ine by going west through Thomson to Athens and then south to Atlanta, or @o over the shorter route through Milledgeville to Macon Motorists who arrive in Augusta from Aiken, Columbia, Camden and| - Points north can continue down the coast on mostly good roads through Waynesboro, Sylvania ‘and Spring- field to Savannah. The long trestle across the Altamaha River between Brunswick and Darien, which was operated by the Georgia Piedmont Railroad, has been taken over by the State and now is an excellent free automobile bridge. The only bad piece of road from Savannah to Jacksonville {s from the ferry landing and St. Mary's River for about 8 miles through the woods toward Yulee, which is apt to be» rough. From Jacksonville, down along the east coast, the roads are all hard surfaced, with long stretches of bric! that are only feet wide, There are also a great many vessed cul- verts which make {t very necessary for motorists to drive at a reduced speed and use caution There is a good road from Jackson- ville through Green Cove Springs and Palatka. There is only one trans- Peninsula route that is ail good from WASHINGTON, Nov. 24.- have been completed by the House Judiciary Committee, acting unant- mously, to take up the impeachment proceedings started against Attorney jenerul Daugherty by Representative Keller CRep., Minn.). A resolution was Dec. unhea: lated make adopted fixing 4 for hearings to begin and call ing on Mr. Keller to be prepared with fetalls and witnesses to support ins charges. A copy of it wae sent to Mr. Keller, who reserved comment for the present on his plans. The resolution provides “that the Hon, Oscar EB. With the exception of a few short stretches, the entire east coast to Macon and about ecigh teen miles below Macon is hard-sur- faced and in good condition. Motorists going down the interio: route from Greenville whu desire ( go direct without going into Atlanta ean continue due South from Athen= through Madison to Macon. There has been considerable discus sion on the route from Macon south via the Waycross route. There ts 1 good route to Waycross, but from there on it 1s atrocious. It is prefer- able when going south from Macon to go through Valdosta, Madison anit Live Oak, where a fair connection can be made through Lake City. to Jacksonville, or to continue south from Live Oak through Springfield, Gainesville, Ocala and Leesburg to Orlando, where the trunk line ts reached crossing the peninsula be- tween Daytona and Tampa. Polk County has bullt a great many miles of hard-surfaced roads in the last three years, and one can motor from Tampa through Clear Water and Bellealr to St. Petersburg, with Tampa Bay on the east and the Gulf of Mexico on the wést. Motorists are also getting throveh in good shape from Haines City through Bartow, Wauchula and Ar- cadia to Punta Gorda and fort Meyers. Motoring south depends entirely on weather conditions and after a long spell of wet weather the clay roads are apt to be very bad. A great many motorists who take thelr cars south and start during the month of De- cember ship by boat.
