‘SERVICE By Capt. Robert Scofield Wood. THE RADIO BROADCAST TIME SCHEDULE, In response to numerous foncerning the time allocations of the broadcasting stations in the Second Dis- trict the following revised schedule is Published. The only difference between this tabulation and /the one ortginally Proposed on May 18, according to of- fictals of the Department of Commerce, &t the Custom House, is that two sta- tions have ceaged to function. WRW, the station of Koenig Brothers at Tarry- town, N. Y., and WBS, the station operated by May & Co. of Newark, are the silent stations whose time in the WRAY SWBAY WRAY wit wiz, wor WOR, WBAN Wor WIZ WHN, WAAT WBAN WAAM WI7 - Wiz echedmle has not 1 any other station Key to Call Letters of the stations Participating in the new broadcasting schedule: WJZ. My set was giving excellent reception until a few weeks ago, I went all over the get and found that my ground had worked loose. TI do able to solder it to the pipe. does not make a bond. What can I do? Answer—A loose ground is likely to give no signals at all, so if you have been getting signals, ever so faintly, @onsider yourself lucky. Scrape the pipe clean, put on your ground clamp tightly and solder the ground wire to tt. If you want to solder the clamp to the pipe, it will be necessary to drain the water off, so that the pipe can be heated and a positive bond made be- tween the solder and the pipe, otherwise you will have little success soldering the clamp to the pipe. Reader, Bronx—‘‘If I add a step of audio frequency amplification to a single lamp set will I be able to use an indoor aerial (loop) with success? If not, what will I have to add to the set to receive on a loop aerial, three feet square?” Answer—A loop aerial is not adapted for use with a detector and one step of audio frequency amplifica- tion, The feeble impulses received on the loop would not be of suffl- efent strength to make any = im- pression on a detector and consequently would be useless, To make possible re- ception with the loop you speak of, and being almost twenty-five mil m the broadcasting station at Newark, It would be necessary to assemble a set with at least two steps of radio fre- quency before the detector unit and back this up with a step or two of audio fre- quency amplification, You may, how- ever, rig up an indoor aerial and get exceptional results with the one lamp set you are now using, Run about 140 feet of insulated wire around the pic- ture moulding of the room and then pass it on in a straight line to the room furthest, away from the one already wired and repeat the operation of in- stalling it around the picture moulding until the wire is used. This aerial will give reception that is singularly free from atmospheric interference and can be used successfully with the single lamp set. FAN, city—"Is there any possibility of an @ndoor aerial being struck with lightning? Can I use the leader pipe on the outside of the house for a lightning 7’ Answer—The indoor aerial about the same chance of b hit by lightning as the bell wire or a brass bed, and is no more dangerous than a tin roof or a line of gas pipe. The Board of Fire Underwriters have prescribed that all exterior lines from an aerial must be kept at least five Inches from the wall of the house on proper insulators. The leader line as you can see is not adaptable under these conditions.
