CAMP SPENCER NO. 2 TAKES OVERFLOW OF NO. 1, The popularity of Camp Spencer in 1921 and the great number of scouts who wanted to return this year com- pelled Manhattan Council to organize an additional camp unit to be known as Camp Spencer No. 2. Spencer No. 2 ts just a few hundred yards from the old camp and its scenic situation on beautiful Lake Kanahawhke ts un- surpassed by any of the other camps, Though the “eats” are perhaps one of the biggest events in Camp Spencer No. 2, they are by no means the only ones. Next in point of interest per- haps ts the waterfront, with the bath- ing and boating. Spencer No. 2 is certainly the place to learn to swim ma hurry. Of all the boys who have yome to camp unable to swim and Who have been there a week only one remains who cannot swim the length of the crit), about ten yards. Twenty- two, previously non-swimmers, ha been graduated to the diving dock and now take thelr places among real swimmers. Three merit badges in swimming have been allotted. These were won by Scouts Bernard Trump- hour, Jumes Dougherty of Troop 301, Manhattan, and Scout Willlam Ros- enzweiy of Manhattan, On Tuesday, Aug. 1, one of the big events of the season will occur, That is the date set for the water meet, consisting of swimming, diving, row- ing and canoeing. This meet will take place on the lake and éach of the fifteen scouts’ camps in. the Ramapo Monntains will enter con- testants, There will be the 25-yard sprint ewim for juniors, or those under 115 pounds In weight, the 50- d sprint for seniors, the 28-yard uck stroke event, the junior and senior dive and several freak events, among them being the ever-popular egg and spoon race. After the swimming and diving events come th wboat and canoe races. In each case there are two men in the crew, these events promise to be the ele contested of them all, Judging from the practising now go'nk on The climax of the event Is the six- oared cutter race. Couch Karet {s giving a great deal of his time to training Camp Spencer candidates for event, and the crew will probably cked from Scouts Emmet Kinner, Rosenzweig, Sandy Saunder- man, Lester Hosback, Edward Gaston, re Hollingsworth Humphreys and John Riviello, with Robert Baron as Coach Karet feels that he “world beater" in this In Camp Spence are grouped in tent a tent, fro vo. 2, the scouts elght scouts ti and three to four tents group ch group has. its Jult leader, and much of the ithin the camp js carried on an intergroup basis \ few days ago one cf these con- tests created a great deal of Interest.
