When she and her family arrived in this country she was an invalid. The Kiwanis Club decided to rais» a fund for crippled children and Doris was the first to be selected. The members sent her to Manhattan for treatment and weekly they sent her flowers and toys. June 30.—A series of in- vestigations into the activities of notartes public in the State is bein conducted by the Governor's office, tt became known to-day, Among the charges are that nota- ries have taken {t upon themselves to grant divorces and in other ways to abuse their power. The first case will be aired to-day when Anthony Buono of Brooklyn will be given a hearing before tho Governor on charges of having lent himself to furthering a false claim against a construction company of Greater New York. It 1g also charged that notaries have ekceeded their powers by taking acknowledgments In an for coun- tries other than those to which they were appointed. The alleged irregu- larities have occurred in Erie, Onon- daga, Kings and New York Counties. A new set of regulations governing appointments and the actions of notaries will be promulgated, In all probability the number will be reduced. Ten years ago the fees from appointments were approxi- mately $60,000. Last year they were $140,000, It {s only necessary to have the in- dorsement of two attorneys for a notary appointment, but this will probably be changed to make the in- dorsement of a Supreme Court Jus- tice necessary.
