, in Tourney Meets Agnes ¢,. Sherwood To-Day. rie By Joseph Gordon. M spite of the fact that she suc- ceeded in eliminating perhaps the Strongest contender for the Con- Recticut State championship for women by defeating Miss Florence Ballin, Miss Helen Gilleaudeau, the Playing through champion, will have to continue playing at top form to hold on to her title. Just how difficult it 1s going to be to deprive Miss Gilleaudeau of the championship will in all probability be seen to-day when she meets Miss Agnes Sherwood in the round before the semi-final at the Country Club of New Canaan. Miss Sherwood has shown some brilliant tennis since the beginning of the tournament and may give the shampion some trouble in to-day's tound. Miss Sherwood’s playing has attracted a great deal of attention - during the New Jersey tournament and has made quite an impression at .New Canaan. The match between her and the title holder should prove to be one worth seeing. Miss Gilleaudeau's playing has been the surprise of the tournament so far. This is the first competition singles she has played this season and !t had been generally predicted that she would not be able to get into form Quickly enough to protect her title. As a matter of fact, the way she is playing now her form is better than {t was when she won the distinction of being ranked sixth in national rank last year In her game with Miss Ballin, who has been a finalist in three tourna- Ments, Miss Gilleaudeau played with exceptional steadiness and a skillful Placing. She was constantly on the Offensive and with aggressive play @nd severity of stroke had her op- ponent at her mercy. The score, it will be remembs was 6—3, 6—2. Mrs. Robert LeRoy and Miss Lillian ®charman reached the semi-finals in yesterday's play. Mrs. LeRoy had a hard time winning her way from Miss Cores Baker, metropolitan indoor @oubles champion with Miss Schar- Man, who made her play her hardest every minute of the match. Miss harman defeated Miss Rosamond Pewton, 6—4, 6—0. : Miss Marian Chapman, who fe- cently won the New Jersey State ehampionship tournament for women, will meet Mrs. J. R. Hall in the round before the semi-final. Miss Chapman fs easily the favorite, not so much because she won the Jersey cham- pionship, but because she is continu- ing to play championship tennis. She fs all over the court and is com- Manding excellent control. mmaries: Connecticut State Champlon- ‘Third round: Robert Leroy defeated Miss Am: Fourth’ round Mra, LeRoy defeated Miss * Baker, 4 Misa Lillian Scharman defeated Miss Rosa- mond Newton, 6—4, 6—0. add three table- spoonsful each of butter and EA&PERRINS SAUCE Reader Takes Newer Form of Iron—Feels Years Younger Six weeks ago I saw a special offer fm the paper telling how thousands of people grow old in looks and energy long before they are really old in yeare, because, as examination by Physicians have shown, an enormous number of people do not have enough fron in their blood. I have been taking Nuxated Iron for two weeks; the results are simply astounding. The roses have come back in my lips and cheeks, and I can conscientiously say that I feel ten years younger. "Phe above is a typical hypothetical ease showing the results that have been achieved by a great many peo- ple since we started this tisfaction or money back” offer on Nuxated Iron. We will make you the same guarantee, If, after taking the two weeks’ treatment of Nuxated Iron, you do not feel and look years younger, we will promptly refund your money, Call at once for a bottle of Nux- wn at any good drug store. Title aiciralinaae Playing Through Champion| TENNIS TOURNEY FOR PUBLIC PARK PLAYERS Officials of the Metropolitan Lawn Tennis Association have decided to offer ®@ championship tournament upon the courts of the public parks of this city. An event of this character to organize and rally the park players to the game was foreshadowed at the annual meet- ing of the" United States Lawn Tennis Assoctation, Jones W. Mersereau of the University Heights Club has been en- gaged in perfecting a plan for the pro- posed tournament which will be re- viewed and set in motion by the Execu- tive Committee of the Metropolitan As- sociation to-day, It was made clear by Mersereau in discussing the prospective championship that, In addition to the competitions, an effort would be made to interest the Park Commissioners of the boroughs of the city in providing adequate play- Ing facilities for the followers of lawn tennis here. Practically nothing of this sort has been accomplished since the tournaments of more than ten years ago, despite spasmodic attempts on the part of the players in the parks to raise the standards of their own depart- ment of the game. Members of the Metropolitan Asso- ciation who are devoting their energies to the public parks champtonship plan declare that New York has fallen far behind other cities.
