THE EVENING SHOOL TO HONOR NEP PULITZER BIRTH ARIVERSARY Journalism Students, Writers and Publishers Will Partici- pate in Observance To-Day. GIRLS TO GIVE A TEA. Women Pupils to Be Hostesses Following Addresses and Placing of a Wreath. The anniversary of Joseph Pulltzer’s birth will be celebrated this after- Roon by the students of the Pulitzer School of Journalism, Columbia Uni- versity. More than 200 students, Prominent writers and publishers will @ather at 4 o'clook in the vestibule of the journalism bullding to witness the @eremonies by the students, who will place a green laurel wreath on the bust of Joseph Pulitzer, founder of the school. "The Life of Joseph Pulitzer” will be given in an address by Dr. Talcott Williams, professor emeritus of jour- nalisman. director of the School of Journalism 1912-1919, After the addresses and ceremonies the women students will give a get- together tea in the school’s city reom. Bince the founding of the School of Journalism, the first of its kind tn the United States, the students have never forgotten the aims of the school as set forth by Mr. Pulitzer. He ‘Wrote in his will, Gated April 16, 1904: “I am deeply interested in the Progress and elevation of journalism, Having spent my life in that protes- sion, regarding It aa a noble ‘profes- moral dnd intellectual training.” In an article published in the North American review, he went on to say: “But while it is a great pleasure to feel that a large number of young men will be helped to a better start service, It will try to develop char- acter, but even that will be only a means to the one supreme end—the public good.” Officers of the school who wilf be present are: Roscoe C.
