Representative Says Youth Has Shown His Merit in * Various Ways at School. WASHINGTON, March 24.—Emile Treville Holley, seventcen-year-old Negro boy, whose home is at No. 102 West 138th Street, New York, has been nominated by Representativ: Martin C. Ansorge, Republican, of the 2ist Congressional District for admission to Annapolis. If he should pass the examination at the Naval Academy April 19 and finish the course there, he will be the first of his race to do so since the reconstruc- tion period after the Civil War. Holley is a freshman at the College of the City of New York. While a student at the Townsend Harris High School, Mr. Ansorge said, he was on the varsity track and baseball squads and an officer of his class. He is also Superintendent of the St. James's Presbyterian Sunday school and a member of the Boys’ Executive Coun- cil of the Y. M. C. A. Representative Ansorge stated that there were four vacancies tor which he named four principals and twelve alternates. Others named as principals are Thomas H. Reed of No. 675 West 16lst Street, members of whose fam- ily have for three generations been naval officers; Vincent Henry of No. $50 Audubon Avenue, and Arthur J. O'Reilly of No. 454 West 144th Street. Mr. Ansorge said recognition should be given to Negro citizens in these appointments. Emilie Treville Holley said he had received no official word of his eligi- bility to take the examination for the eervice school when told of his nomi- nation.
