9? / BRIDE ARRESTED SHOT IN DEFENSE WITH HUSBAND ON AUTO THEFT CHARGE Police Say Loaded Revolvers Were Found on Couple Who Came Here From Syracuse. Charged with stealing an automo- bile pwned by Mrs. Catherine Knox ef No. 110 South Clinton Street, Syra- cuse, James Bernard, twenty-three, a chauffeur, and his wife, Peggy, twen- ty-two, who gave the New Amster- dam Hotel, 25th Street and Lexington Avenue, as their address, and Salva- tore Bruceri, twenty-one, a tailor of No, 28 Goerck Street, were arraigned to-day in Essex Market Court. They were arrested last night by detectives of the Automobile Squad. According to the police, the Ber- nards, who were married in Syracuse Sept. 3, left that city with Bruceri Nov, 30 in two stolen cars. One of the cars was stolen while left stand- ing by them in front of the New Amsterdam Hotel, Loaded automatic pistols were found upon Bernard and his wife when they were arrested, the police say.
