(The New York Fvening World), smut on yHe omneR a COUPLE OF GOOD x VES | of London’s 22,000 Police Next Month. By William Abbott. WO stalwart London bobbies, who have trailed the Marquis of Queensbérry's game with re- markatle success, are training to-day at the New York A. C. for their in- ternational bouts next month with the two best boxers of the New York Police Department. They are Henry Mallin, 19, British heavyweight ama- lteur champion and Olympic title holder, and Jack Stanley, 160, cham- pion of his class on the London force and during the war a professional boxer of noto. In charge of the in- vadine party 1s Inspector A. J. Spriggs of Scotland Yard, who looks more like a dapper London clubman than @ pupil of Sherlock Holmes. Said the Inspector, pointing to his charges: “These boys are the champion boxers of London's twenty-two thou- sand policemen. They are both full- blown constables (this Is the bobbie term for first-grade policemen) and Jare ranked very high back home as | boxers. Predicting the outcome of lthe meet here 1s only speculation, as we do not know who our opponents will be, but we hope the best men win.” Inspector Spriggs and his two husky constables arrived yesterday | Columbia Crew |afternoon on the Imperator and were lariven to the Police Club on River.
