The trial of Detectives Hilbert Wheelwright and Frederick Sorger, set for to-morrow morning before Commissioner Enright on charges of having concealed the presence of Augustus Drum Porter in an alleged disorderly flat, raided last November by the police, was called off to-day at the direct command of Judge James T. Malone in General Sessions. Judge Malone, soon after reaching his chambers to-day, sent for Assist- ant District Attorney James E. Smith, ‘who is handling the police graft cases, and from the bench said; “I have been informed that at- tempts will be made by certain per- Sons to interfere with witnesses in & case pending before this court. I direct you to notify these persons that any attempt to do this will be in violation of the authority of this court, and if persisted in I shall di- rect the Grand Jury to investigate.
