Godowsky Plays Chopin With the New Symphony By Sylvester Rawling. BOPOLD GODOWSKY was solo- lost with the New Symphony + Orchestra at its concert in Carnegie Hall last night. He was heard in the Chopin E minot piano Poncerto, which he played with superb technical skill in the severely classi- ul Manner that is his wont. It was a Pétformance that appealed litile to the emotions, but for clarity, intel- lectual grasp and lucid exposition it Was masterful. Mr. Bodanzky began with Weber's “Huryanthe” overture amd finished with Tchaikovsky's fourth symphony, both of which he conéeived poetically and directed with fine rhythmic sense, The orchestra Still ds lacking in quality, but it has steadily improved under Mr. Bodans- ky’ leadership and can nold its head up. The concert is to be repeated this afternoon. be ‘The dates of the last pair of con- certs of the society's season have been changed from April 29 and 30 to April 14 and 16, when Fritz Kreis- ler will be the soloist. Next season the orchestra will be-known as the National instead of the New and sixty concerts instead of twenty will be Given. Associated with Mr. Bodanz- ky will be the well known Dutch Conductor, William Mengelberg. Andre de Ribaupierre, Wiolinist, gave a first Aeolian Hall yesterday a French recital in afternoon. Sonata, a Mozart concerto, and com- tions by Bach, Saint-Saens and ‘gaye. A sufficient and agreeahle fone, good style, and musical taste | marked his pave.
