Keen competitions between evenly matched entries marked the opening exhibits of the 34th annual horse how at Madison Square Garden to- day. The horses shown in the vari- Ous classes of the morning session were 90 evenly matched that the Ring Committee appeared to have aiMoulty in reaching decisions, The competition for some of the clases was 80 close the entries were kept in the ring long after their eoheduled time before the judges were able to make awards, The morning session, which should have ended at 12.30, was still in progress fong after that hour The. only really easy winner during the morning session was King Tarigo, a tiny Shetland stallion owned by the Hamilton Farm, which captured the blue ribbon in Class 3 and Class 36. ‘The King drew « hearty round of| applause ag he circled the big en- closure witb a blue ribbon fluttering from each side of his well shaped head. King Larigo outclassed the other Shetlands in the ring com- pletely. Gitver Tips II. and Silver Tips 1, both owned by Mrs. F. P. Garvan, finished in the order named in the Shetland’ class. In Class 6, stallion trotters, Suldine, wned by Robert E. Moreland, cap- “tured the blue ribbon, while Master Tdeal, property of Horatio N. Bain, was second. Mr. Bain’s Sir Robbins was picked for third place after much indecision on the part of the judges. Wbony King, owned by Jobn R. ‘Thumpson, managed to take the blue ecoration in Class 52 for trotters in harnvss, Mr. Moreland’s Suldine being nosed out for first honors. Johanna, wwned by Charles J. Barrie, was third. Cless 35, for pony stallions not ex- ceeding fourteen hands, produced a winner in Peter Hauck’s Irvington Autocrat, while Melbourne Tatler, a Dolchestér Farms entry, was second, and Masterpiece, owned by the Cas- aillis Farm, third, Mr. Moreland’s Suldine took his third prize of the day when he was awarded the blue ribbon in Class 53 for novice roadsters, Mr. Barrie's Jo- hanna was second and Gen. Pershing, owned by A. B. Clark, was third. King Larrigo, a veteran Shetland stallion of the Hamilton Farm, Glad- stone, N. Y., won the first two prizes | in the Shetland class. The king has 7% blue ribbons to his credit and 25 championships. He was bred by George A. Heyl, is eleven years old and stands 41 inches in height and is worth $10,000, The Shetlands tickled both old and young and looked like hobby horses and pretty as pictures. There are 1,506 entries in the Nz }.thonal Horse Show this year, 402 more than last year, The entire proceeds of the show go to the Salvation Army The decorations this year are de- gidedly unique. The color scheme is green and reds and the garden has been transformed into a pretty village with horses of all breeds champing at their bits on the green.
