All shipments were refused at the various offices of the company in the Metropolitan dis- trict, At a meeting of the strikers this afternoon Chairman Edward Woods announced that 1,700 men had en- rolled in the Teamsters’ Union of the American Federation, of Labor and had paid an initiation fee of $1 each, and that 3,000 more signers were ex- pected within a day or two, Vice President Cowle of the com- pany sald the demands of the men had been submitted to the Railway Administration at Washington, which was responsible for the wage award taking effect May 1, and that pending a reply nothing could be done toward meeting the demands of the mon.
