Miss Marion Chard, nineteen years old, beautiful and well known Green- wich, Conn., girl, is is a dition at the home cf friends on the I. N. Phelps Round Hill, as the result of an attack on her yesterday afternoon. Willi + Clifford, a chauffeur, who, according to the police, has confessed, is held in the Greenwich Jail without bail. Miss Chard, who has been deaf and dumb aince childhood, on her return from Oyster Bay yesterday after- poon, decided to walk from Green- wich to Round Hill, a distance of six miles. She has been living there with her grandmother, Mrs, Maria Cal- Jahan. Clifford, who had a call to the home of Paul B. Ferris, overtook her on the way and invited her to ride to ber grandmother's home. Knowing Clifford, she accepted the invitation. He drove by Mrs. Cal- Jahan’s home and took the girl to the woods just beyond Round Hill, She was unconscious when, sometime later, he placed her by the roadside and went to the Ferris home for his passengers A man and a woman passing there shortly before § o'clock, found the girl, took her to the Callahan home and ealled Dr. K. A. Schnell, Prosecuting Attorney James F. Waieh was notified and with Policemen Robert and James Fitzroy of the village, worked all night on the case and finally arrested Clifford.
