SIXNEW ENGLAND REGIMENTS MOVE TO SPARTANBURG — Skeleton Organizations From Camp Greene to Fill Ranks at Wadsworth. {Special to The Evening World) CAMP WADSWORTH, SPAR- TANBURG, Feb, 18.—The Fifth Rogiment of Pioneer Infantry (for- merly the 8th Massachusetts), Col William H. Perry commanding, has; reached Camp Wadsworth from| Camp Greene, at Charlotte, N, C,! Five other regiments of the New) England National Guard fron: the @ame camp will reach here this after- moon and to-morrow. There regi- ments were skeletonized some time! ago in order to fill other regiments, as was done with seven of the York regiments. They now have a} total strength of only about 2,500) officers and nen, but will be recruited to full strength here. ‘The under- | standing is that the recruits will be | draft men from the States from which the regiments come, though there is no official announcement as to this. The regiments, besides the 5th Pioneer Infantry, are; 3d Pioneer In- fantry, formerly the 5th Massaciu- setts; 4th Pioneer Infantry, formerly the 6th Massachusetts; the 56th Pio- neer Infantry, formerly the 1st Maine Heavy Artillery; the 57th Pioneer Infantry, formerly the First Vermont | Infantry, and the 58th Pioncor In- | fantry, formerly the First Connectt- cut Infantry. They are to be under command of Brig. Gen. Guy Carleton, command- | ing the Provisional Depot for Corps | and Army troops. The six new regi- ments gives him thirteen infantry regiments and three battalions of anti-aircraft gunners. It is becoming apparent that the statement made | some weeks ago that by midsummer Camp Wadsworth would have from 60,000 to 80,000 population was based upon accurate information. The sick rate in camp continues to | decrease, a better showing being | made each week. The weekly report to-day shows 28.3 non-effectives per thousand, against 28.9 per thousand. There has been only one death in Curtiss of the 105th In- fantry, Was the host at a dinner at the Country Club his fellow alumni jege on duty here, It | y informal affair, There @re thirty-two Williams men in Camp Wadsworth and twenty-two | were present, the others being de- | tained by their military duties. Mr. | Edgar, of the class of 1888, who Is spending some weeks in Spartanburg, was also present, and read portions of an interesting letter from his son, Lieut, Edgar, also a Williams gradu- ate, who is with the American Ex- peditionary forces in France. | These promotions have been made Capt.
