We bought nearly two-thirds of the en- , tire remaining Nelson-Matter stock, most of it being the new designs being held for | Fall and not shown to other dealers. We bought six times as much of the Nel- | son-Matter furniture as any other store. | After 60 years of building furniture, much of which went into the finest hotels of the country and is still there giving good service, Nelson-Matter, of Grand Rapids, decided to turn over their large factory to the building of aytomobile bodies. Letters were sent out to a few of the leading houses of the country offering for sale the stock on hand. Some of their buyers looked over the furniture, We inspected the furniture in May. We liked it. We believed our custom- ers would like it. We made an offer; 50 per cent. dis- count for the entire stock. The offer was taken under consid- eration. , Pending a decision some of the furniture was sold to’ other dealers. Nelson-Matter writes us that such sales were made as follows— To a store in New York a purchase at retail figures of approximately $10,000. at retail. To other stores over the country, mostly west of the Mississippi, about $50,000 at retail All of these sales were made at discounts of 25 to 8314 per cent.—none of this furniture was sold ||| at more than 8314 and much at 25 per cent. off. Then our offer was accepted. We bought the entire stock on hand. We secured for our two stores $127,000 worth at retail. We were allowed 50 per cent. discount on every piece and every suit. We believe the public is entitled to all these facts because the much smaller purchase of Nelson- | Matter furniture at much higher prices is being featured by another store as the main part of its August Sale. And it would be a pity for anyone to pay higher prices, without notice, for Nelson- Matter furniture when it can be had here at exactly half price. The Nelson-Matter Furniture is Now Ready— Three Carloads Have Arrived It is all bedroom furniture. It is made of brown mahogany, regular mahogany walnut and enameled wood. It is all period furniture, but it ranges from the ornate to the very simple, from the luxurious down to the almost staple kind. It is sold en suite and by the single pieces, but complete suits will not be broken. Some of it was in the “cutting,” going through the factory, and finished after we bought \@-the very newest pieces, advance samples that Nelson-Matter expected to take orders on for the fall and winter. Half price for everything! To two stores in Philadelphia about $20,000 | «Hotels Furnished Partially or Entirely | —Every piece and every suit at exactly half price June 29, 1917 JOHN WANAMAKER, — New York City, Ip considering t ofter for the entire remaining product of this company one element that greatly influenced our seceptance was the proposition for delivery as rapidly as goods could be com- pleted, We had leased our new factory for @ period of years to one of the largest automobile body manufacturers in this section of the country, with the agreement that possession would be given at an early date, and as al! the furniture we are preparing for the coming season was well under way and had to be pushed to com- pletion, it was a material advantage to find # market for the goods ae fant as they came from the works, Your offer covered these requirements, and although the price was materially less than the goods were worth, it enabled us to carry out our contract, and this, of course, was of vital importance to us. Permit us to say that substantially all of your purchase was made up of new patterns that had never before been offered to the trade, and are constructed and finished with the same care and attention that has always characterized our product Your selection was for @ large amount, including nearly two thirds of our remaining stock. The balance was distributed among our many customers throughout the country. You can offer these goods to your friends with the assurance thet they will in every way sustain the reputation that the product of this factory has always enjoyed, Very trul: » NELSON MATTER FURNITURE COMPANY, James G, MacBride, Sec'y.
