od Savage and Weinert Meet in Their Long Deferred Bout at the Pioneer Sporting Club To-Night. comme es Yeas West 'O-NIGHT is the night for that long-leferred return match be- tween Jim Savage of Orange and Charlie Weinert of Newark. They will clash this time at the Pioneer Sporting Club. These two heavyweights mot last summer at Madison Square Garden, and although Welnert won rather easily, the bout was interesting throughout. Savage thinks that he ‘will turn the tables this time. Savage has been showing exosiient form since Manager Martin Julian took charge of his affairs. Ho easily defeated Al Reich, gave Weinert a hard fight, and sbowed unusual game- bess by outpointing Jack Dillon tn the last three rounds of a fight in which the so-called man-killer knocked him down three times for the count, The Savage-Weinert match has been postponed twice. The first time Weinert reported tl! and then Savage was otricken with an attack of pleur- isy. The Boxing Commission fined the men $250 each to reimburse the club for the expense it want to in ad- Yertising the bout, the money to be taken out of their whare of the re- ceipts to-night, This seeras a hard- ship on both/men. If Savage wins, a match with Frank Moran would be interesting, especiai- ly if the Pittsburgh boy doesn’t land the match with Willard, Savage is the only boxer who ever stopped ‘T is reported that Bonny Kauff has made up his mind that he has about himself for publica- on a trifle too much and that he ts now ready to sign a contract with the Giants. He'll receive $4,000 a year and @ $5,000 bonus, which will be paid in three yearly instalments, Benny has become tired of paying lawyer's fees and it is said that if the New York management will help him pay | the $2,000 he owes his legal advisers he'll put his signature to a document at once. However, McGraw doesn't think it is necessary for Benny to sign, as he believes the purchase of his contract from the Feds was suf- Liciently binding. WY one to be head football coach at Yale should, possess Solomon wisdom, a personality pleasing to both f_eulty and under- gradi utes, keep thw old “grad” stars ip line, weed out all “frat” -society influence from the football squad and ‘turn out a team that will beat Har- vard and Princeton. Yale's vommit- tee of Three must find such a man before it can appoint him. So far the hunt hasn't been productive of any such prize, AURICE M'LOUGHLIN and Tom Bundy, two of Califor- nia’s tennis stars, are deter- mined to go ahead with their sport- ing goods house project. The Call- fornia tennis authorities, who are not represented in tho United States Lawn Tennis Association, are just as determined to support McLoughlin and Bundy !f the national body finds| them gullty of professionalism. It strikes one that the U. 8. L. T. Trying to Lo Rumored That Gathernig of Ex-| Outlaw Leaders Stovall, Schafly, Carroll and Ganzell Is for Purpose of Asking Pro- moters for Fair Play. By Bozeman Bulger. HERE are several strange young men in town trying to locate. Among these young men are George Stovall, Larry Schafly, Dick Carroll and John Ganzell, The things they once had in and with the Fed- eral League. If not the fobs, they would be willing to locate some of the coin that would have accrued to them if the said league had not become peaceful. . | All of these players were managers —Carroll having been the business; did more than anybody else to make the Federal Leaguo as near a suc- cess as it was, Without them the promoters could have done little. Especially does this apply to George Stovall, But for him the Feds could never have cornered so many players, He al#o showed his nerve by being the first big leaguer to jump and he was the last to quit. In view of those touch that Stovall has not been taken care of in the settlement. It is un- likely that any of the major league @ prejudice against him for having been first to persuade players to jump to the outlaw organization, That puts it up to the Feds to look after him, Stovall has made no complaint.
