Dugmore, with his | wife, who was Mrs. Bramhall Gilbert jof Great Neck, sailed on the White | Star liner Adriatic for England to- A gathering of sixty or more prominent residents of the national capital, including diplomats and Government offi met last night at the French Embassy by ation to witness the first presentation in this country of the series of war motion pictures taken by the order of the French Government for pres- ervation in the national archives of France. From 10 until 12.30 o'clock they watched scenes depicting infantry charges, divisions on the march, artillery fire, exploding gas bombs and German prisoners being conveyed to the rear. In one picture alone no fewer than 120,000 men were shown—more men than are in the entire United States Army. Of especial interest were the views of the battle front in the Champagne district, which has been compared in appearance to the site of a ruined machine shop fifteen miles long by three miles in breadth. The films were ex- plained by E. Alexander Powell, an American war correspondent, through whom the French Government loaned the series. Later they are to be exhibited throughout the United States and Canada, the next display being scheduled for New York for the benefit of the Lafayette Fund, the date for which has not been selected.
