ee DROVE QUT HIS SON AND SHOT HIMSELF INIT OF REMORSE Dispute Was Trifling, bu Youth Lert Home and Father Feared tor Him. Herman Schfiling, a well-to-do res- taurant owner of Williamsburg, shot and killed himself at noon to-day in his noune, No, 83 Freeman street, in a fit of remorse for having driven his only son Edwin, seventeen years old, trom home. The father and son had a trifling dis pute one evening a month ago, and in an‘ outburst of bad temper Schilling shouted: “Oh, get out of the houre.” The boy went out and did not return. Netther his father nor his mother heard from him again. Schilling hunted through the neighborhood for him and then advertised in the newspapers that he had not meant what he sald and wanted his son to come back. For the last few days Schilling had been full of fears that the boy had killed himself, He would not heed his wife's assurances that Edwin had prob- ably found work in New York and would turn up all right soon, Schilling told his wife at breakfast that he was not feeling very well, and asked her to do the marketing and see to it that the day's work was properly started in the kitchen, When she re- turned she found him lying dead be- fore a mirror in the parlor, He had shot himself through the mouth. pendniae Shaadi ALIMONY FOR WIFE. BLOOM AND AROUSED CLAN OF BLOOMS 10 RIOT taliation for Being Bumped | Under a Bureau, A punch upon the nose of R. Bloom, twenty-three years old, of No. 7 East One Hundred and Fourteenth street, started a riot in the neighborhood of his home this afternoon and filled the alr with cries that suggested murder, arson, battle and sudden death, It was William §. Shannon, furniture mover, who punched Mr. Bloom. Mr. Shannon was carrying a bureau out of the house when B, Bloom rushed through the hallway and bumped into him. Shan- non went down under the bureau and lay atill for a moment. Then he got up and landed a perfectly aimed blow upon B. Bloom's nose. B. Bloom's ejaculation of surprise and pain established a new yell record for Harlem, Twenty-two feminine Blooms rushed out of the house to assist him, calling upon their neighbors and friends to join them, More Blooms came out of Nos. 9 11, 18, 16 and 17 East One Hundred and Fourteenth street, and before Mr. Shannon really realized that he had punched young Bloom he was surrounded by a howling mob of Blooms and Bloom sympathizers. The mob expressed a unanimous desire to lynch Mr. Shannon. They threw sh cans and tin pails at him and grabbed at his clothing till he drew a revolver and waved it.
