ONE, OF THEIR NUMBER WILL TRY FOR OFFICE. Their Servants, Who Heretofore} Have Been Intimidated by “the Machine,” Will Vote with Them This Year. (Special to The Evening. World.) GREENWICH, Conn., March 16.—The feform party in this town, in its fight |gainst the political dictatorship of R. Way Walsh, which will have its climax ‘at the polls on April 4, when the officers of the borough will be elected, have selected their ticket, and the son of a prominent millionaire has been chosen for an {mportant place on the ticket. ‘This reform party. which was secretly organized during the winter, has been the first real opposition to the Walsh machine since he began his autocratic Tule of the township ten years #go. Since the sentiment against Walsh has crystallized into actual organiza- tlon it has been learned that the ser- vants and employees of the millionaires in the section have been the tools of the Walsh faction in every borough and township election for years. ‘Though the millionaires do not live within the precincts of the borough and cannot therefore take any personal part in the coming election, they have given their moral support to the reform party, as they hope to defeat Walsh in the | township election next fall. They have discovered that their household servants have gone to the polls year after year and voted for the ‘Walsh Ucket, and when they ques- tioned their menia!s about it lately they met the startling query in response: | “What elso would you have us do? Why, if we were to vote against this man our lives would be made miserable. There is not an officer of the municipal fovernment who would not harass usin avery possfble way, and even the trades- men would be shy at us and give us no ond of worry, for they are in. abject fear of the Walsh ring and support it with- ut question.” Servants Still Afratd.
