(€ SPORTING NEWS SPECIALLY REPORTED FOR THE EVENING WORLD. <a CALLAHAN MATCHED TO FIGHT “CORBETT.” The Pair, to Meet in Philadelphia, Should Furnish One of the Best Fistic Argu- ments Ever Seen There. The ambition of Tim Callahan, the Philadelphia feather-weight, is about to be realized. Ever since “Young Corbett” won the feather-weight championship the Quaker City boy has been anxious to measure blows with him. He continually challenged but got no response. Now “Corbett” has agreed to meet him. Before one of the athletic clubs in Philadelphia the two boys will meet in a six-round bout early | | | next month. They have agreed to weigh in at 128 pounds at 3 o'clock on the day of the battle, From now until next Friday match- makers will have the opportunity o bidding for the contest, and the club with the biggest offer will get the “go.” It is almost unnecessary to say that bids will come like ripe plums falling from a tree. Every club will want the match, for it is questionable if two litle men could be brought together to put up a pret- tier contest. It should be a “corker,” to say the least. and one which should attract lovers of the pugilistic game from many miles around Philadel- phia. “METS” VS. EVERETTS. Pa., Sept. 19.— Tommy Love stayed six rounds with Harry Forbes, of Chicago, at the State Athletic Club last night, although It was exceedingly doubtful near the end of the last round whether he would be on his feet when the gong sounded. Last winter the two bantems fought before the Washington Club, in this city, when Forbes carried off the hon- ors, Last night he gave the local fighter a severo drubbing and almost put his gnan out. Twice in the sixth round Love went down. The !first time ,he managed to xet on his feet aulckly, but another right smash on the Jaw sent him to the mat again. This time he took che full count, and when he arose he was very groggy. Forbes went after him fully bent on finishing his Job, but T FORBES He Mixed It with Ex-Champion Bantam and the End. Love evaded the blow soporifie t& clever footwork and clinching, Love Mixed Up. Love is one of the few local fightert who will mix matters with his oppo nent. and this came very near causing his auletys last night. During the first four rounds he made a good showing, but after this he threw caution to the wind and went after Forbes. This was just what the Chi- caxoan was walting for. his left into Love's swung his right on Love's jaw neck several times, and quickly his man in a bad way. Love was game and played despe! to secure the verdict, but Forbes wal easily his master and won the decisi handily.
