A list of alleged pool-rooms and hand- Books in Brooklyn was forwaried to District-Atorney Clarke to-day by Rev. Dr. Cortland Myers, pastor of the Baptist Tabernacle and Vice-President and Chairman of the Executive Com- mittee of the Society for the Enforce- ment of Criminal Laws. Dr. Myers charges that these places are run with the connivance and under the protec- tion of the police. “Certainly the patrolmen do not get the protection money,” said the minister to-day. “Then who does get it? What men higher up profit by the contribu- tions of the gamblers? I propose that Deputy Commissioner Dbstein shall find out and punish the guilty. Prose- outing Attorney Carter had in court many witnesses by whom he expected to, prove the charge. These included people living in the vicinity of the house in North Stamford, where the couple spent some time, Mrs, Quintard was in court with her! father, Capt. Burley. Miss Bradley's mother, who had been subpoenaed, was) in the proseoutor's office, but not in court. A crowd of spectators, who ex- pected sensational disclosures, were dis- appointed. ‘The proceedings were brief. When the complaint had been read, Homer 8. Oummings, counsel for the) accused, Mled a demurrer to the com- plaint, This was promptly overruled. The Judge found probable cause, and Quintard was held for trial in the Su- perior Court under a bond of §25,000. John McNally, to whom Quintard sold his Sound Beach lvery business before he deserted tls wife, quedified as surety on the bond. There has lately been much talk of reconcilation between the Quintards, but there was no sign of ft today.
