Her companions knew she had zone, but where, when or how was quite beyond them Mrs, Gray raised a terrible commotion when she got home after dark and found fcr Httle one missing. She aroused the whole neighborhood and packed her hushand off to Police Headquarters to report the child's disappearance. Neigh- bors dropped in to extend sympathy, ‘There was no sleep in the Gray home or in the immediate vicinity, for Mrs, Gray's grief was vociferous. About 4 o'clock this morning, having worked herself up into a frenzy, she threw her hands above her head and uhrieked at the top of her voice: ‘Mat- tle, Mattie, wherever you are, in God's name come to me!" ‘There was a stir under the bed, and a very sleepy kid crawled, blinking, into the light. She was much mystified by the crowd of neighbors and her mother’s denu rstrative greeting. After Martha was fully awake she explained that she felt tov tired after her day's play to think of supper, and she crawled up- stairs and under her, mother's bed to sleep. She had slept a’ solid nine hours through all the excitement caused by her disappearance.
