THE SAD STORY O “Break Away, Archie It Says Through Its Tears, as It Watches the Rounds of the Sorrow - Fight Pro- ceed to the Finish— Lady Isabel in Blinders. ONE WORD - eens ee SMe 1s THE MOTH (Br hah cononen | Not since the last time we saw Little Eva die in a tent have we so thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as we did last night, when !t was our rare privilege to wit- ness a presentation of that tear-com- pelling, heart-moving stew of sorrow called “East Lynne,’ at the Harlem Opera-House. The executioners were Miss Agnes Burroughs and her ‘“care- fully selected company (The quotation marks are borrowed from the programme.) It ft not for us to say how the afore- said Miss Agnes Burroughs and her “carefully selected" troupers broke into the Harlem Opera-House. Nor ‘a tt for us to say how they kept the audience from breaking out. Suffice to impart that both parties to the cruel and mirthful occasion—the company and the audience—remained to the bitter end, when Lady Isabel, dying on a single bed with gilded head and feet, clasped her arms about the long-suffering, fre- quently-thrown-down Archibald Carlyle and asked his forgiveness, and the aud!- ence rose as one maz and weman and cried, in glad relief: “Break away, Archie!” Vertly it was an occasion of joy for the discriminating, and thers was none fm the house not a dlecriminator. Perhaps It was the palpably gilded head covering of Lady Isabel. ‘The merciful curtain descended for a supposed Inpse of seven years. The audience thought ft over and agreed that it might be worse if it were any better. Nearly Takes the Count, SECOND ROUND-—Lady Isabel ts y.
