It ts removed from the lock by a simple turn of the key, as shown above, making it practical and easy to adjust the core to new keys whenever desired. It can be manufactured to fit any locking needs. The Best Key Combinator The Beat key combinator, shown above, is a device for bitting blank keys to any desired combination, by setting the blank key in the combt nator, and presting down each number desired and the combinator lever, in rotation, It ts so simple that @ child can operate It and {t produces perfect keys in almost unlimited combinations. The Best Lock Combinator The Best lock combinator js a device which quickly adjusts the lock cores to operate to one key or a number of different keys. ‘The core can be adjusted to several different keys in one operation of the combinator, making It a quick and simple process to adjust the lock to as large a number of different keys as is desired. Inventive Genius of Seattle Man Promises to Rev- olutionize the Lock Industry of the World Important among the elements which promise growth and prosperity for Seattle is the organization of the Best Universal Lock Co., with exclusive license to manufacture and distribute, in the United States, the Best Uni- versal Locking System, patented and perfected by Frank E. Best, of this city. The new company, which has taken over the plant of Frank E. Best, Inc., at 1121 Post St., corner of Seneca, was incorporated under the laws of Wash- ington on Sept. 15. Frank E. Best is president and general manager, A. Ss. Elford, vice president and treasurer, and Charles H. Shields, secretary and sales manager. The Best Universal Locking System promises to revolutionize the lock industry of the world, because it embodies an entirely new adaptation of lock mechanism to modern demands for security and convenience. The purpose of its invention was to provide locks which could be readily adjusted to open to but one key or to a number of different keys, so that the individual could discard his bunch of keys for a single private key which alone would open his private locks, to which no one else had the right of access, and also open all locks to which he had access in common with others, One Key Replaces the Bunch The object of the inventor has been fully accomplished. With the uso of the Beat nystem, tho individual may go through the day with but one key for all purposes. The single key opens the padiock on the garage door, the Ignition lock on his car, the outer and inner doors of his office, his desk and private files, his post office and safety deposit boxes, his club or lodge lockers, and the door of his home, when ho returns at night Not only does the system supplant the cumbersome bunch of keys with a single key, but also the Best lock is the most secure and the cheapest to manufacture, insuring its rapid introduction to take the place of existing locks. Lock Differs From All Others The basis of this remarkable system !s the Best lock core, which contains the lock- ing mechanism, which can be fitted to any koy-locking contrivance, It differs basically from any other lock core in that it js re- movable from the lock by a simple reverse tusn of its master key. A Best lock’ core, adjusted to fit one key or @ number of keys, can be quickly removed and adjusted to fit additional Jeys, or adjusted so it will not operate to’ keys which have been lost or stolen. The Best lock core reverses the practice of the lock industry of making the key to fit the lock, by making the lock to fit the key, or any number of keys that is desired. Tho Best lock core also differs from all other lock cores, in that it is manufactured entirely by automatic machinery from a solid piece of metal, making the Best lock not only far more secure than any other, but also much cheaper to manufacture than other locks which are made In parts and assembled and adjusted by hand. Basis of a Great Industry Because of its remarkable flexibility to key combinations, its adaptability to all key- locking devices, its simplicity of mechanism and its economy of construction, the Best lock core is the basis of a great manufac- turing industry, which will develop with Seattle as headquarters. The Best Universal Locking System com- prises three fundamental elements: 1—The LOCK CORE, a removable pin tumbler, two shear line locking mechanism, which can be manufactured to fit a great variety of locking contrivances. 2—The KEY COMBINATOR, a device for bitting blank keys to any desired combina- tion. 3—The LOCK COMBINATOR, a device for permanently adjusting a Best lock to fit keys whose combinations have been bitted on the key combinator, All three elements are adequately protected by patents, Installing Machines for Quantity Production For the past two years, Frank E. Best, Inc. has been engaged in. perfecting the lock and devices of the system to the highest efficiency, and in manufacturing and assem- bling ten automatic machines for their pro- duction in quantity, in the Post St. plant of the company. The newly organized Best Universal Lock Company its completing con- struction of the machines and should be ready for quantity production of lock cores and combinator devices within four months. The Best lock cores have a great potential market among the manufacturers of locking devices for automobiles, safety deposit boxes, trunks, valises, furniture, phonographs and every other article of common use requiring locks, Manufacturers of these locking de- vices buy the cores from lock core manufac- turers, so this great field is open to the Best lock core, in competition with all other cores of less merit and greater cost of production. The same is largely true of the building locks. The great building hardware field of the United States, involving $250,000,000 an- nually, is open to the Best Lock core. Best Locks to Meet All Needs For the first two years, the Best Universal Lock Co, plans to confine its manufacturing activity to quantity production of lock cores and combinator devices. Later, the company plans to manufacture complete locking de- vices for every known use, filling every need of the lock industry. The practicability of the Best Locking System and the machines for its manufacture has been demonstrated beyond doubt. The upbuilding of a great industry in. Seattle depends only upon the introduction of the Best lock core in general use in the United States. * BEST LOCK DEMONSTRATION EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT It is impractical to explain in this advertisement how the Best locks and combinators work. A complete demonstration of the Best Universal Locking System is given at 7:45 every Friday night at the Company’s plant, 1121 Post St., to which everyone who is interested is invited. Best Frank E.
