I have thoroughly investigated the working arrangements .of that company with their staff and find that the men in that office are working for the cale, the full quota of hours and prevailing condi- tions agreed upon by the Seattle Employing Printers’ Association, free from any agreement with the unions or the men composing it. Furthermore, I can con- fidently say that the autocratic domination of the printing industry of S by the crowd at Sixth and University will never resumed by them at any time in the future. The members of our organiza- tion have permanently adopted the American Plan of | | | | | | | t be employment in their offic HERMAN A. HOROWITZ, For Seattle Employing Printers’ Association. The Union Record Lies In the issue of the Union Record of November 7th appeared the following: “WESTERN SHOW PRINT SHOP IS OUT OF TRUST” “One of Bert Swezea’s Plants Is Fair to Union Labor.” ud Employing was . announced printing trades The Western Show Print, the only establishment of its kind in the city, is employing a full union crew at the new scale and is using the union label on its output “The plant is owned by Bert Swezea, a prominent member of the . employers’ in the ranks of the Printer Association Monday strike by the committee. association, who also is proprietor of the Pioneer Printing Company. The latter plant re | mains with the employers’ associa # tion fighting the unions, and Swezea is placed in a dual capacity and unfair in another. “I've never worked In a non- union shop, and I’m too old to start now,’ R. 8. Richards, manager of the Western Show Print Company, | is credited by the union men as | having declared.” | fair to labor in one of his plants | | | | There is no comment that I can make, beyond the information contained in the line heading this state- ment—That the Entire Article Is a Deliberate Lie. Both of the offices with which I am connected are being run under the American Plan as open shops and will in the future be so run. (Signez) B. L. SWEZEA, Sec.-Treds. Pioneer Printing Co., Pres. Western Show Print. I wish to add in confirming the above statement of Mr. Swezea that as to the statement reputed to have been made by me that .“I’ve never worked in a non- union shop, and I’m too old to start now,” is also an unqualified lie. I am not and have not been negoti- ating with the unions and will not in the future and am conducting the Western Show Print on the American Plan of employment. . gned) R. S.
