Seattle boxing fans are anxiously awaithyg the decision of the county and city police officers as to the future of the ring game in Seattle, It is hoped that when the excitement of the fleet and the president's visit is over that the mayor, chief-of-police, and sheriff and prosecuting attorney can get together and ap point a censer of boxing for Seattle. The Seattle public wants the sport bere and as public servants it's up to these officers fo get together and settle this issue for once and for all. When smokers are called off at the last minute nobody is the goat but the public, Let’s get this business out of the way new. Tt is to be regretted that such an efficient athletic coach as Tony Savage should be without a post this year. At the present time he is teaching at Lincoln high school where Ernie Wells is coaching. Not to detract from the rest ef the coaches of the city, it is doubtful if there has ever been a better athletic coach in the Seattle high schools than Savage. He is recognized as & football general and one of the best basketbal tutors on the Coast. He learned his football under Dobie and was the coach of the varsity basketball team for several years, In his one year at Lincoln high school Tony's teams won the high honors of the in football, basketball and track. Tony belongs at the ity of Washington as Hunt's assistant and Hunt could elped the chances of the varsity for the Coast title by : him up, but evidently Hunt thought he could get along Savage. Who will captain the University of Washington football team ~ this year? Three men seem to have a right to the job. Ross Williams was elected to pilot the 1918 crew, but also left for the service and then Ervin Dailey was eleeted to the post. The only right way to settle the question is to haye the letter men on the sq now cast a new vote for the loader, Smith is entitled to the | honors over the rest of the candidates because he was the first fo leave for the front, But each of the three have claims and | a new election is the only fair way to decide it, ——e Down the home stretch Vernon and Los Angeles are pounding * nose and nose to the Coast league wire, It’s been a grand race and may the best team win, The pennant will just about be * decided in Los Angeles when the Angels and Tigers mix there during Inst week of th The dope rs the Tigers wever, pl et in Salt 1 ity and the Los Ange veeks’ games and then returns trip isn’t going to help the Angels any. reak, Seattle's chances of climbing out of the cellar in the Coast league this year will be decided for once and for all next week when they gle wiih the Portland Beavers in the Rose City. g avers hold a big lead over the Seg at the present time, but if the locals come to life int metropolis during the next few days we still have ef landing im seventh place. And still the school board has not decided where the high school football fall, Perhaps the question will is er, Stranger things have ning of the se is scheduled for the first week ad there isn't an enclosed field in the city where the games can be played. eos eee eT all fans are beginning to wonder whether or not Accord- rley is leading his r is willing to step If Charley is net pout high time that ing to reports f at the present down from the to be retained the local zn next ye
