Has she not for the first time in her span of summers donned a long frock, a hat that tiits at delightful angles and dressed her halr after the fashion of her elder sister? i 3 ‘Who wouldn’t rejoice and right gladly at that? The grownup airs and graces that she has practiced In the privacy ef the nursery may be put into actual practical use, especially as the florist's boy deposits a be- wildering array of his finest efferings in her hands, much to the amusement of the entire family, but to her Then, when she 1s quits ready she stands before the long mirror and turns slewly one way and then the other. The shirred skirt with all Its swithing fullness ripples about her feet, showing a bit of shiny kid now and-then and occasionally a glimpse of lace that pleases her mightily. Looking higher, the dull satin girdle catches her’ eye and with.a suspicion of a frown she laces It just a wee bit tighter, pulls the loose, full front up an eighth of an inch, Teadjusts the gold beads that encircle her throat, and then smiles at her- self in a Jjolly fashion. With a 'deep courtesy to the opposite lady in’ green and a murmured, “Really, you'll do.” she trips down the stairs, gets her beloved muff and walks demurely to church with her father like a dutiful daughter. - But really who is to say er even think, for that matter, that the lowered head and veiled eyes are- taking in the fit of her best friend's gown instead of seeing heavenly visions and being duly thank- ful for her manifold blessings?
