When confronted with this fact REDWOOD CITY, Aug. L—Charges of manslaughter have been made against it is sald that the voung men admitted they were firing in the direction of the boys, but over their heads in nrder to George B. McLellan, Howard H. M.—-l Lellan and Brismo Martine for the kill- ing of young George A. La Palme on rmgmen them off the premises. This wml‘ in direct contradiction to their first story that they did not know of the presence of the boys. Upon further investigation the officers learned that George B. Mc- | tine have been in jail since Tuesday af-| Lellan was present at the time of the them- | shooting and that he had shouted to the the | bathers to get off the place. It is doubt- ternoon, .when they surrendered | selves to the officers, claiming at ful, though, whether he was heard, as the distance between him and them was that fhey were firing at a telephone pole over 70u yards. Both young McLellan and Martine have been extremely mervous and hysterical during the whole time of their incarcera- tion and yesterday it is said Martine broke down completely and confessed. As a result of this confession the officers ar- rested George B. McLellan and brought him to the County Jail last night. This morning a complaint was filed against ail three, charging them with manslaughter. They were taken before Justice of the Peace James Hannon, who fixed next Wednesday as the time for their prelim- inary exdmination and who also set the amount of bail at $10,000 in each case. None of the defendants has given ball as vet, though George McLellan requested the officers to notify his .relatives of the action of the court. It is probable that the necessary bonds will be forthcoming to-morrow to insure the ‘appearance of the two MclLellans at the preliminary examl- nation Wednesday. / NEW BALADID OUT OF MO0OG Special Dispatch to The Call.
