Skidmore, Author and Philanthropist, Passes to Her Last Rest. ¢ Miss Harriet M. Skidmore, the well- known literary woman, passed away yes- terday after a painful illness of several months’ duration. The late Miss Skid- mcre’s literary work was known not oaly in California, but throughout the United States and Europe. Miss Skidmore had contributed to periodicals all over the world, and in several languages. During the unfortunate illness which terminated her career Miss Skidmore fs- sued a new volume of verse entitled “Roadside Flowers.” Besides being ever ready to give a helping hand to those of her sex upon whom fortune had not smiled, Miss Skidmore was one of the busy workers who organized the Wom- en’s Century Club of California, in which organization she held several important offices, notably the posts of secretary and treasurer, and was the librarian of fh club up until the time of her demise. Mi: Skidmere was also a member of the Pa- cific Coast Women's Press Association. For many years Miss Skidmore was an ardent member of the Ladies’ Sodality attached to St. Ignatius Church, and filled the position of secretaty for the Fran cescan Relief Society for sixteen yea: and served as president of the society for one term. While a devout Catholic, Miss Skidmore did not confine her good work to the' denomination to which she be- longed, but her kindly deeds went broad- cast, irrespective of creed or nationality. ———————— Death of Capitalist’s Son.
