Nine flats will be ercted by Dr. Short on the west line of Van Ness avenue, north from Union street, to cost $34,000. A four-story and basement annex of brick will be added to the store of Gold- berg, Bowen & Co. on Sutter street at a cost of $25,000. A TRANSPORT EMPLOYE Cclored Man and a Boy Chased and Captured by Two Po- licemen. J’ghn Doherty, who is employed on the transport Warren, was held up by a col- ored man and a boy on East street, near Mission, about 1 o'clock yesterday morn- ing. The colored man presented a revol- ver at Doherty’'s head and ordered him to throw up his hands. He yelled for help before the thieves could get anything from him and his cries were heard by Policemen McGowan and Barry. The officers chased the two footpads and Steuart. The colored man was Eugene B. John- son, a porter living at 227 Second street. He was booked on charges of assault with intent to commit robbery and carrying a concealed weapon. Frank Clark, 17 years of age, who also had a revolver in his pocket, was booked on a charge of car- rying a concealed weapon.
