H. Wilson and John Kane ap- peared in Judge Clancy’s court to-day to answer to the charge of contempt. The agents of the plaintiff appeared at the workings of the Minnie Healy miné yesterday and were refused admiesion. Heinze, Wilson and Kane today, through their attorneys, announced to the court that they were not ready to plead, and the hearing was post- poned until 10 o’clock Wednesday forenoon next. COURTS AWARD A VAST DOMAIN Eagan, Former Corumis- sary QGeneral, Lucky in Mexico. Special Dispatch to The Call. EI, PASO, ' Tex., May 17.—General Charles P. Eagan of ‘“‘embalmed beef” notorfety has just won in a suit 2,500,000 2cres of valuable Mexican timber and nineral lands from W. C. Greene, the Sonora, gome months ago, and news came of a duel between himself and Greene, tut the report was denled. Subsequently the sensational report gained currency that thousands of stands of arms had been smuggled into Sonora from the United States, presumably for the warring Yaqul Indlans. It was stated that the arms were Eagan's and that he was pre- paring for a conflict with Greene. The Mexican courts decided in E: favor, although Greene clalmed to purchased the land before it was given to Eagan by the Government. BSince the tiouble commenced each clalmant has had his retalners, consisting of cowboys, Indians and border rufflans, who were ready at any moment to begin hostilities. The Mexican rurales were more than once called on to preserve order and selze arms and ammunition. Clergymen Discuss War Claims. DALLAS, Tex., May 17.—At to-day's sesslion of the general conference of the E. ' Church South the committee on publishing interests reported on the war claims issue. The majority sustained and defended the book agents and church in the transaction, recommending the reten- tion of the money and a final closing of the Issue. The minority .report submitted by James Cannon-Jr. of Virginla ar- ralgned in the strongest terms the book agents and Attorney Stahlman.
