The Associated Charitles located at 601 Commerclal stréet has placed thestamp of condemnation upon the Newsboys Home 9 Howard street. The directors of association do not think it is a good thing, and have so reported to the Mer- chants’ Association. Several months ago the newsboys of the oity conceived the idea of making a home for themselves, where they could eat, sleep and spend their time when not engaged In selling papers on the streets, heads of the fraternity a plan was formed based upon decldedly democratic idea bordering on soclalism, whereby homele: lads could form a sort of a big family, paying their share of the expenses of the home. The management of the home was un- der the-direction of a board of officer: and there was some little ‘‘politics’ among the newsboys in getting their men into control. Then it was found that th finances were not as plentiful as was n cessary, and the lads started out those i(indly disposed to get such ance as possible. Many private fa and- merchants contributed liberall to outward appearanc the went along boomingly.. But then came an inquiry, or rather many inquiries. A number of merchants, members of the Merchants’ Assoclation, stated that they were willing to help in a good cause, but they wanted to know just how good the cause was before giving food, bed- ding, clothes, fuel, shoes, e to the “agents” of the home, The officers of the Merchants’ Associa~ - A.
