The only man in the United States who lives in a church steeple is Hezekiah Bradds, the sexton of the Bantist Church at Westport, a suburb of Kansas City, says the Times of that town. The room is small, scarcely larger than a dry-zoods wux. 1t is just under the beils. In that tiny room he cooks, ects and sleeps. Through the small windows that furnish light in the day time he can see a portion | of Kansas City. Above his head the swallows twilter as thev fly in and out through the lattice work. In his smail room are a bed, a dresser, a tiny stove and atable. He has been sexton of the church for several yearz, and has occupied this rcom in tbe steeple since his wife left him. Some years ago he marcied a widow witi a grown son. The son proved a bone of contention, and after numerous quarrels the wife left her husband, taking the fur- niture with her. Then tha church trustees suggested that Mr. Bradds move into the little room beneath the bells. Church members furnished the room comfortably , and since then Mr. Bradds has lived a lonesome life. e It is estimated by engineers that the leakage from the gas pipes of London equals 9 per cent of the total manufacture. —— ey THE CALL CALENDAR. september 1897.
