Ellinghouse went with Sheriff Mclnnis this afternoon to look at the old prison walls, with a view of utilizing them as an arena in which to hold the carnival, He found them adapted to the purpose, and a seating ca- pacity can easily be arranged for 20,000 people. He says if he succeeds in making satistactory arrangements Brady will | bring off a finish fight between Maher and Sharkey, for which Brady has offered a purse of §10,000, and between Creedon and Kid McCoy. He will also malch Tommy Ryan | against the winner of the Green-Walcott fight, which will take place in San Fran- cisco on August 27, Al Gumphill of Eng- land and George Dixon are among the possible attractions, and Dan Sullivan | and Jimmy Barry are on Brady’s card for the week of sport, Kid Lavigne and some good crack in his class will undoubt- edly be among the attractions. Last, but by no means least, another fight between Robert Fitzsimmons and J. J. Corbett is among possibilities. At all events Brady hopes to get up another go between the world’s champion and ex- champion to settle the dispute as to whether Fitzsimmons struck a foul blow on that memorable 17th of March. Brady has already offered big induce- to Fitzsimmons and Corbett to come together again. They are consider- ing Brady’s proposition. Corbett is un- derstood to be only too anxious to try the red-headed champion again, and Fitz- simmons is ““thinking.’’ Every fight will be to a finish, and Mr. Ellinghouse says it will be the most at- tractive week's pugilistic carnival ever put on in this or any other State. He will make Reno bid against Carson, and says the successful one will have to make | arrangements for entertaining at least 20,000 people for a week. Reno is very much excited over the proposition, and Ellinghouse will prob- ably know more in aday or two than he son in the morning to pay his respects to Governor Sadler. NEW YORK Y., Aug. 9.—William Brady told a Sun reporter to-day that he had matchec Kia McCoy and Dan Cree- don, and that they would fight somewhere in Nevada between October 1 and October 31 for a $10,000 purse. Creedon aul Mec- Coy recently posted $1000 each to bind a match at 158 pounds and have agreed to adhere to this weight. If McCoy, who fights Tommy Ryan at Syracuse on Sep- tember 8, should lose, Ryan would be sub- stituted to meet Creedon. RS s ON THE DIAMOND. Van Winkle on Pine Ridge this morning. Van Winkle was inside a cabin with the Elder family, who were on an outing in the mountains. Seated outside on a bench were Sanford Elder, his brother and a friend. Van Winkle, who was loading his rifle, drew back the lever with his finger on the trigger. The hammer descended upon the firing pin almost as soon as the | cariridge entered the chamber, discharg- ing the rifle. The ball passed through the side of the cabin, two one-inch boards, and struck young Elder in the back of the head, The body of the boy was taken to Selma and the "Coroner notified. Two little boys had been left in charze of the house, and they, after play- ing awhile in the kitchen, went out of doors. Shortly afterward a fire started COMMANDER A. J. BELL OF VENTURA., tunds by depositing various securities a few months before he committed suicide, the California Safe Deposit and Trast Company and the London and San Fran- cisco Bank. These creditors united to effcet a reorganization and save the prop- erty from the reczivership expenses which have been eating it up, The property consists of 30,000 acres of land in Yakima County, together with Sunnyside cana!, which irrigates it. The receivers have been handicapped in building needed laterals and other im- provements by a lack of cash, making it necessary to operate the property in a hand-to-mouth manner. Land sales have been few, because intending purchasers feared they would be buying a lawsuit. For nearly two years the creditors have been discussing plans of reorganization, and in the meantime the receiver<hip ex- penses, incinding taxes and maintenance, have grown to $16,000, represented by re- ceiwver’s certificates. ‘The property was offered the Northern Pacific Railway if it would pay the preferred claims, but the company declined, as it had its hands full caring for the land grant. The r-organization plans contemplated the issuance of 6 per cent bonds to secur- ity holders to the amount of $450,000 and the stock will also be divided. Holders of securities will receive bonds and stock as follows for each dollar of indebtedness: Receiver's certificates, §110 in bonds and $2 stock; holders of purchase money cer- tificates amounting to $140,000, $105 in bonds and $150 in stock; construction certificates amounting to $140,000, $1 in bonds and $1 25 in stock; bonds amount- ing to $262,000, which Schulize is said to have sold for $100,000 and converted the proceeds to his own use. Holders of these must advance 30 per cent of their holdings in casli. They will then receive 30 per cent in bonds and 70 per cent in stock. Those who do not make this advance must lose all. Unsecured creditors will receive stock. The two San Francisco banks would have lost large sums but for the reor- | ganization. It is claimed the company, With proper management, will pay divi- in ment nas fallen largely upon the shoulders of Benior Vice-Commander Hattery of Los Angeles and Captain A. F. Dill, chief of staff, of this City. The other officers of the association present in camp are: master’s Sergeant P. Warner of Ven- tura, Adjutant T. H. Scoby of San Diego, Surgeon H. P. Woodward ot San D ego. Musical and literary programmes are rendered every evening in the big pavil- ion tent; choice banquets in the Women’s Relief Corps tents are irequent; sailing and boating excursions on the bay are given eveiy night, and pleasant trips are made daily to all points in the bay region. Tuere is very little discipline of a military nature in camp, the general orders being for every soldier to enjoy himself thor- oughly anq without care during the en- campment. To-nicht the programme consisted of music by a chorus choir and the association band and several recita- tions and short speeches. To-morrow is Sons of Veterans’ day. The programme will include exercisesin the big tent, participated in by sonsand danghters of veterans exclusively. It will open with a brief address by Malcolm W. | McDonald, followed by an oration by Johnson Puterbaugh, son of Judge Puter- baugh, late of the Superior Court. Mrs. Nellie Averill Armstreag and Miss Gene- vieve Averill will deliver recitations. There will be a fine fag drill by forty- eight young girls in white, and a solo with chorus by Mrs. Annie B. Sloane. The programme will conclude with a ball in the dancing pavilion. There are altogether about 1100 men, women and children in camp. Of these not more than half are registered.
