COAL—Harrison's circular sa; “During \the week 13,870 tons of Coast Coals have come to hand; no arrival from any ontside source. No par- ticular change to note in this line; the arrivals are small and quotations are unchanged. Since the in- cipiency of our spring weather the demand for fuel for house purposes has falien off 50%—as it is need- ed now solely for cooking, not house-heating. Sales for steam are holding up, as the low prices now ruling for steam Coals tend to Increase the demand. The very light arrivals iof Australian o far this year have served to maintain values, and the yards are almost bare of the leading grades of Coionial Coal. For gas or steam uses we have other charac- ters of Coal to substitute for Australian, hence any attempt to make a fancy valuation for Wallsend or Greta would prove futile.
