CHICAGO GRAIN AND PROVISTONS Features of the Trading and Closing Prices on Roard of Trade. CHICAGO, Sopt. 15.—Heavy hedging snles In the northwest and lower quota- tons from Liverpool caused a break to day in wheat prices here. The market, altholigh steady at the <h~!- was e to 1%@1%¢c net lower, lll\ eptomber at $LuMs and December nt Ye. Corn finished Ye off to a ahade | mvuu-«. onts dewn and provisions varying m‘m 'w docline to a like upturn, Reports of much increased prossure from the sprink crop movement, espe clally at the Minneapolis terminal, formed the chief handicap aguinst the bulls in wheat. The effect of lowar cables, how ever, had precedence In the matter of Ume and was accompanied by advices that = British traders seemed to have adopted & walting attitude and were aj parently relving on greatly enlarged re- celpts soon both In the United States and Canada. Announcement was also made that the official estimate of the Canadian Yield was nearly twice as large as last year's total Only a slight recovery from the bot tom prices of the day took piace in wheat. The highest prices of the sesaion woere obtained shortly after the openin and were due to unwel v rains. Ex port business amounting to 40,000 bushel principally’ Manitobn, did not appear to ho of muffiolent volume to give any no- ticeable rejolcement to the bulls. LAght frost in the northern part of the corn belt detetred speculators from selling corn freely, The weakness of wheat however, acted throughout the session as & welght on prices. The oats market was dominated almost wholly by the change in the value of corn, A fair ship- Ping demand tended somewhat to have a steadying effect \-~III|\‘ by packers largely overcame n rather decided advance in provisions. In- vestment buying, aotive cash inguiry and the fact that hox prices were at a new hikh level for the year were reasons fo: the temporary upturn. Stranm New Movie Palace, Open to Public Remodeled, renovated and redecorated, the American theater, at Elghteenth and Douglas streets, last night became the Strand, a motion-picture palace, and the first of Its feature films to be flashed on the screen was presented for the Omaha public. The Strand is an innovation as far as Omaha “movie” theaters are concerned. Other cities have their picture palaces where exclusive feature filme are given. but last night was the first time Omaba has ween anything quite so pretentious. The interfor of the theater has been (decorated in a soft red, with a myriad of lights snugly hidden in wicker bas- kets of flowers hanging from the ceil- ings in the boxes and corners and under the balcony. Boxes and baskets of flowers predominate throughout tho house, and vines trail from the boxes to the lobby. Ferns and palms add & gar- den-like effect to the corners, ‘The pleture screen is located far “up- stage” so that no blinding flicker can bother the persons seated in the front part of the house. The pictures last night were wonderfully clear and easy to the eye. (George Heban In “The Alien” was the film flashed last night “The Allen™ is & moving picture adoption of Mr. Beban's great dramatic success, “The Sign of the Rooe.” 1In this, Mr. Beban plays an Italian character part, which is very difficult in the silent drama, with & fine understanding of the race. It is & very pleasing, rather sentimental story, and the audience last night found enjoyment in watching it portrayed by the camers. “The Allen” will be shown today again, and tomorrow. Then will follow Rey *yrus Townsend Brady's novel, “Island Regeneration. A pleasing feature which adds to the entortainment at the Strand s the mus! An elght-plece orchestra under the di- rection of Carl Lamp, and a new §7,600 pipe organ played by Miss Usher furnish the music and make it mach easier for one to enjoy the pictures.
