Brandeis & Dons Announcements of the Theaters. “Rush and finish” 1s the rule at the Orpheum just at present. Fresco artls painters, drapers, carpet men and car- penters are strehuous in thelr efforts to finish their work before Sunday, the day set for that important event in theatricals, the opening of the sixth season of “Omaha’s soclety vaudeville theater.” The activity is 1o less marked at the box office, where a continual c\ll for reservations has kept the ticket dispenser busy. The demand ad- | sures overflowing houses Sunday. The ar- rangements for a large number of theater parties and the great number of purchases by members of the ‘“smart set” already shows that Monday evening will be a spe- clal Innings for the fashionables. The box office s open every day. BOY OWNS COUNTERFEITING Young Employe of Bwift & Oompany Oon- fesses to Police on Arrest. BAYS OLDER COMPANION WAS IN DEAL Checks Are Foi Work 1a Two The South Omaha police yesterday ar- yested In its early stage one of the boldest forgeries ever attempted in that city. Raiph Steward, a 17-year-old boy, employod at Swift and Company under the name of Smith, was caught by Policeman Cushing while coming out of Frank Pivonka's office on lower N street, after unsuccessfully en- deavoring to cash a check. His arrest, however, the police say, dis- closed the fact that he had cashed no less than half a dozen checks, mostly at the sa- loons and aggregating about $100. These checks are all artistic imitations of Bwift's regular pay checks. They are made by pen and can acarcely be distinguished from the rogular checks. On each check is stamped the regulstion red line, “This Check Not Good For Oyer Thirty Dollars.” Stoward unbosomed himself to the police ‘when taken into custody. He told that for two weeks he and P. H. Bhrenst, another employe of Swift's, have been spending their avenings at the Smith boarding house, nesr Pwenty-fourth and Q streets, making fmd- tations of the Swift checks. He said that Bhrenst had warned him never to disclose the plan and had worked hard to get the mignature of Swift's cashler, B. N. Berka, down to & fine point. Bhrenst has gone and the police have no clue as to his whereabouts. He is described W rather tall, of light complexion and about 3 years old. Little is known of him by his follow workmen. ¥or some time tho company has been an- noyed with forged checks, cashed at differ- ent saloons in the city. A careful inspection showed that no printed paper had been used in the manufacture of the forgeries, but the police were absolutely at a loss to know where to look for the guilty partles. Sus- plefon was at last directed to these two young men. This 18 the second attempt made to dupli- cate pay checks in South Omaha within the last fow weeks. Every possible effort will be made to capture Bhrenst, although no clue has s yet been learned as to his This evening at the Boyd, the favorite Iwedish dlalect comedian, Nels Erickson, will appear in “Yon Yonson, heading a company especially chosen for the play by P. J. Kennedy, under whose direction it is produced. The story is one full of romance with a melodramatic tinge, and gives some | realistic pictures of a lumberman's life, The breaking log jam and the rescue of the heroine is one of the most thrilling scenes ever put on the stage. The Lum- berman’'s quartet {s another strong feature of the entertainment. Popular prices, 15, %, 60 and 75 cents, prevail for the engage- ment, which s for two nights and @ mat- inen. At the matines the best seat can be had for 25 cents. The return of “Ben Hur" is awaited with as much interest in Omaha and the sur- rounding country as was its first appear- | ance. Messrs. Klaw & Erlanger have abated | nothing of the value of their great produc- tion, but on the contrary have renewed the scenery and accessories and have con- tinued the company that made it so suc- cessful everywhere since its great New | York triumph. It will be given here just as it was In New York. Its engagement begins on Monday evening, September 23, and is for one week. Seats go one sale Thursday, Beptember 24.
