20 THE OMAHA DAILY BEE: SUNDAY, JUNE 21, 1903, WORK ON STREET RAILWAY Improvements - Twentleth Dodge Will Result in Better nt Car Service, The street car workmen have been busy this week placing new curves at Twentieth and Dodge streets, on the Harney and Dodge lines, and in placing connecting switches. The rails at this intersection had become badly worn and racked the cars considerat passengers to a much greater extent have now and then jumped the rafls of the Harney line while making the turn. A switch will connect both the In and out lines. The work of making the change is difficult anl expen- slve. Several days have been required to break apart the iron and cement of the old cable tracks, and the new rails have had to be ordered of special curve owing to the relative position of the tracks. The improvement will have a tendency to quiet rumors that the Dodge street hill was to be abandoned by the Dodge and North Twentieth line and the cars brought along Beventeenth street The new switches will greatly facilitate the delivery of cars to the Dodge line at night and morning. Heretofore, when cars were put on in the morning and taken off at night, and when the extras went on for the busy hours, it has been necessary to run down to the Burlington depot and then back on the line. Now the cars, which are all housed in the Harney street barn, can be run directly up to Twentleth and Dodge streets.
