Nebraska Central Will Give More Work #ud 80 Ability to Pay More Taxes. Osaily, June 8,—To the Editor of Taa B I bear that a few laboring men ara opposing the Nebraska Central bonds, I believe tney ave doing thewselves and our clty a groat injustice. The argument tbat the laboring man will pay the larger share of the conteruplated tax in increased rent is very farfetched and does notagree with local experience. As alaborer living in Omaha since 1883, T find my experienco like othors has been as follows:, Up to 1589 bonds were issued for general improvements. My renn increased from §10.00 o $12.50 per month, and my earning capacity was taxed to its limit, only losing six days' work in that period. Since then bouds have been 1ssued to a more limited extent, yet in spite of that fact and coutrary to Mr. Deave theory whilo my rent has decreased to #7.50 per month, my earning capacity has decreased still' more (for a large period 1 have not averaged twelve days' work per month) and if uo boads had been issued at all during that period I can traco several days’ work that would have been lost by me. Which condition iy preferablo for the la- borer—low rents and practicaily no work, or an increased rent with increased labor, with vread and mcat for wife and littlo ones't As alaborer who will apply for work on the Nebraska Central, if built, I will take my chances of getting labor at market prices for labor, knowing that I can do no better than got market prices whether this road 1s built or not bailt, and believing the building of this road will stimulate the demand any- how, if not the price locally for labor. That new lavor will be brought here I foresee and believe that is one of the reasonsy that the road should be built and encour- aged; that it will bring more labor, more capital, more industries is the reason we want it. This enterprise cannot draw the line against bonest labor, Regarding additional taxes, Mr. Deaver or Inced not worry over that, if our aoility to pay them is increased much more largélys the laborer with increascd demand for his lubor can pay his rent or taxa great deal casier, A LABORER, e Dr.Biroey’s Catarrh Powaer cures cataren For sule by ell druggists. by cents, Sl The Intelligent igner Writes Engltsh In a paper contributed 10 the Gentle man’s Magazine, Major General Patri Maxwell tells a buiiget of stories of how linglish is sometimes mutilated by the smurt baboo and tho intelligent” for- cigner.
