A HOM The Model Establishment of the Interna- tionat Cure Association, In the beautiful 4-story stone and brick building, No. 520 1st avenue, just west of the Grand hotel, the Interna- tional Cure association has established a most attractive home for patients de- siring treatment for the drink disease. For conyenience, beauty and comfort a better selection could not have been made. Located in the very center of the city, in touch of its business houses, hotels and boarding houses, it possesses all thosummery attractions of a pleasure resort, for it fuces upon the beautiful Bayliss park, with its grand trees and spurkling fountains, Arrangements are being made to provide patients also with ample opportunities for outdoor recrea- tions, such as lawn tennis, croguet, quoi ete. With private grounds in the rear add the public parl: in front, those who frequent the institution ma lend as retired or as active n life as m: best please their inclinations. Extering the almost pulatial appear- ing bunlding, one finds the interior at tractive and commodious, Tho recep- tion room impresses one with the home- likeness of the place. Through the reat plate window in the front one 00ks out upon the benuties of the park. A large fire place, with artistic mantel, suggests in contrast, the requiste for cheerfullness in the chilly evening time. Leading from the reception room is tho parlor for the wuse of the phy- eicians, and their room for exami- nations, consultation and treatment, together with a little dispensary, closeted at one side. Further along the hallway dre bathrooms and toilet rooms, and private rooms for the use of patients in special cases, where constant care and continued attendance is required. Then there are the clubrooms proper, which are open to the use of all. Games are here provided and anything needful to make the time pass pleasantly. The tables in the reading room are strewn with the latest and best literature. Throughout the establishment there 18 an air of real comfort and cieanliness, and competent judges declare it to be one of the most completely equipped in- stitutions in the west. The association is under the control of such well known citizens as W. J. Davenport of the C., B. & Q., City Mar- shal Templeton, Postmaster Treynor, City Auditor Gould and Colonel Tulleys. Mr. %. J. Babcock of St. Paul's Episco- pal church commenced a series of sermons yesterday morning on the gencral subject of “Che Suficiency of the Church.” What called nis miud to that subject was & sermon he heard during his recent .visit to the diocesan convention at Davenport, 1n which the speaker intimated strongly that the church had proved itself incompeteat to maintain_ the standard which outsiders have a right to expect of it, and to con- stituto itself s central spring out of which shall flow the religious life of the community in which it is loo.ted. Mr. Babcock is & firm believer in the sufiiciency of thoe church and ho has consequently begun a series of sermions in which be iltends to prove that if the church only lives up to the standard which is set for it by the bible and avoid the petty differences and discords which have made it & laughing stock in so many places, thero will be_uo reason for fear that it will be unable to fulfil the expectations of its founaer. I am convinced that the time will come when the little differonces of creed wiil van- Ish and tho churches which were formerly one will again become united,” said Mr. Babcock {n @ private couversation on the subject aftor the sermon was ended, “and 1 believe that & very potent factor in bringing about 8 revolution of this kind will be o re- beliion on the part of busiuess men who are now besot on all sides with appeals to nelp this, that and tno other religious causo. In & town of 8500 inhalitants where I formerly lived in Michigan thero were fourtecn churches, many of them so weak as to have to call upon theoutside public for sid almost coustantly. It is much the same wuy in any town. In keeping up these struggling organizations there is & tromendous amount of waste, aad people ure begiuniug tosee that it is & very expensive thing to have so many churches, espacially where o comparu- tively littie real roligious work is doue b them. This feeling ou the part of vusine men s sure 1o buvo & good deal of effoct in bringing wbout the ultimate unity of the chureh.” e Special Millinery Sale Monduy, Misses Sprink & Fearon will have a apecial sale of trimmed und un\rimmed hats Monday forencon and ladies desiring stylish hats to wear Decoration day wiil find this ugreat opportunity to get bargains that will please them, s Jurvis Wine Co., Sunta Clara, Cal, e Sunday at Manawa, ‘There bias beon no formal opening of the season at Macawa but the beauliful day ye.- terduy and tho fact that the motors we:e waking regular hall bouriy trips induced many poople to visit the great plessire re- sort. During the afteracon between 8)) und 1,000 were beartily enjoylug all the ploasures the resort affords. The steumer Roscue was runniog and several hundred ‘people visitcd the beach, There is au elegant stage of water and tho lake is clearer, cleaner and in every way pleasanter thau eyer before, The high water and the big waves that have been driven by the northwest gales against the south shore have made some marked changes that wiil add a great deal to the value of the beach for bathing purposes. The waves have eaten awny the sand_banks for quite a dis- tance inland and carried thousands of tons of sand into the lake, carrying away and cov- ering up the mud almost to the center of the lake and accomplishing some- thing which has long boen desired but which could not have been done at an expense of less than many thousand dollars. The cut- ting away of the sand banks has made a wide, smooth, beach that extends from the toboggan slides to the extreme southwest end of the lake and reaches out into water thirty feet deep. Tuls has given the Man- hatton Roach Improvement company @& greater mcentive toward further improving their property. The comvany is composed of energetic Omaha and South Omaha men, and they announce their intention of spend- inz all the money that is necessary to make the bouch what the puolic will demand. The bath houses have not yet been opened, butif the weather continues pieatant they will bo ready to accommodate by the middle of this woek all who desire totake a plunge or a ride down the toboggan. The conditions yesterday were too enticing to be resisted.by all the visitors, und two Omaha ladies won tho tonor of takiog the first bath on the beach for the season. —pn Dr. Chamberlain, oye, ear, throat, catarrh, Shugart bloe Council Bluffs, Pastures for horses and cattle on George I'. Not Altogether Satisfied. The present system of attending to stray cattle is not meeting with the astounding success that those who suggested it ex- pected. Sincs the office of poundmaster was crented and the work of picking up cattle that Lad been allowed to roam the stroets was takon from the city marshal the latter official has received many cais from peovlo residing in different parts of the city to take care of stray cattle, kill vicious dogs, and do other things *which, under the old system, were part of bis duties. Now, however, it is different, and Marshal Templeton steadily refuses to tako any part in the work. The pound- master has no office nearer than the driving park, so that by the time he has been noti- fied of what is wanted of him the cattle have bad plenty of time tv get into another part of the city. Tae people who make the com- plaints complain some more when they find bow long it takes for the poundmaster's office to get action, while if the vagrant animals are reaily run in it of course causes ahowl to be sent up from the owner who has to go a day’s jouruey to get his property back. Altogether, the present way of doing things 18 very inconvenient, and it is prob- able that steps will be taken soon to bring avbout an improvement.
