AT NATURALLY CAUSED MUCH EXCITEMENT Statements from Hatch of Option Bl Fame That His Measure Would Not Pre- vent Legitimate Dealings Helped Trading Largely. ©RICAGO, TI1., March 20 —The strings tying @own the wheat market were cat loose today. As a result a big round cent for every bushel was wided o the price of the cereal, almost ina)ifly. The announcement made by which ateh, in a tolegrawm from Washington 1s Jeged 10 have suid that the proposed nuti- op- tion measure wovid not obstruct or prevent n single trinsaction now authorlzel by the Board of Trade. hul the effect of lifting the Muy delivery to 80c. Last night the closing figure was i0c exactly. There was little In_the situation ecarly to Jead to strength. Cables were weak und ail representod the European markets 08 much depressed and quotations came decidealy lower. Private dispatches from Parls gave a gloomy picture of the market there and safd that it was regarded ns cortain that the duties on Imports would be fully restored on June 1. The weather continued exceptionaily favorable and was regarded us @ bour fuetor. whi.e the cXport business wis very encoura:ing But thero was i dewnand 10 cover shorts und prices started in whov yesterdny's close, or at 10%¢ for May. The wome bullish news came In: outside mar kets were higher, the umount of wheat and flour on ocenn passage showed a decreuse of 1,412, 00 bu., and the eal recelpts proved to be 1.0 cars less than expeeted. These rather increased the demand, and the cubles being rather meagre, there was a grad- ual rally tof0he, but quickly weakened, us 1t was found that 4 good deal of wheat came outat the advance, Cutlerseliing presur bly for Pardridge. ' This sent tho price off to 70i4c, and while the market held in i sluggish, uncertain condition, A, Kilne miade public two dispatches from Washington, saylng thut the antl-option Dbl ~wus being considered In committes and sunar amendments adoptoa, which, it passed. would mot. affect a single transuction now author- jzed. W. 11 Haton." The result was that new life’ was intused into the trade and there was quick develop- mient of strength, Mey soon touching Sue. During the last hour the market becamo very weuk on the receipt of lower cab'es .und free sollinz. Muy sold off near the close to Tlc, but reacted and closed firm ut from %0 0 uye. Corn was more active and recovered almost enyirely fron yesterday's weukness, tho ro- £ult being lurgely die to the reaction in wheat. Sliorts showed considerable norvous- ness and were anxlous to cover. Selling wus restricted. Local receipts were smaller than expected and the inspection still very unsat- istuctory. Sherman and the Weare Commis- sion conipany were the principal buyers and were generaily thought to be_ucting for Cud- any. Muy opened at d0c, sold 1o 40%c and kept firn until near the close ind reacted to <0%c, at which price it closed firm. Uats were qulet but firm, governed largely by the better feeling in corn. There wasn firm feeling In the provision market und better prices ruled, but the advance established ut he close wus not heavy. Pork for Muy is 7 Nigher. County Clerk Sackett is dotermined thav the asssssment of property this year shall be faiv and equitable; that all taxable property shall be assessed, gnd to this end he has issued the following instructions to the ward nssessors of the city of Omana and South Omaha: In order to guide you in the discharge of your duties as assessor of tho ward of Omaha, [ desiro to call your attention to the following matte 1t seems to bave been tho custom of former county clurks to onter in the assessor’s book certain lands in red ink, presumably those not taxable; but, while I have adopted this custo r, I wish to say that it is your duty to dotermine what is not assessable, and not mine; so that, should vou find among the land entered in red ink any that should be taxed, you will place a valuation upon it and it will bo treated as taxable; and I would call your attention to section 2 of tho revenue act, that you may study it carcfully and ex- empt only that property contemplated by law. All raiirond property outside the right of way and aepotgrounds in yoar precinct must bo listed by you for taxation, You will also istund assess for taxation in this county all the property of whatever kind of the railroad known as the Omaha Belt Railway company. The roadbed and right of way, depot grounds, tool houses, main and side tracks will bo listed and as- sossed the same as othor roal estate. Any rolling stock or other personal property of this road kept in your precinet will also be assessed by you. You will also list and assess as real ostate theroadbed of all street car lines within SouR precinct, estimating its value by the inile. All gas and water mains laid down and all telephone lines within your ward will be listed and assessod by tho assessor of the ward in which the main ofice is located, and I would suggest that in the event that none of these offices are locatea within the boun- dary of your ward, that you use all possible diligence to see to it that all the property of such corporations is m‘n{)erly assessed by the assessor of the ward in which the main oftice is Jocated. 1 wish to cail your attention most particu- iarly to the law relating tothe assessment of corporations and the blanks provided for this purpose, The returns for each corpora- tion must be made upon two blanks, one for tho capital stock and other items of cradit, and one (the regular personal blank) for tho listing of all personal property owned Ly such corporations other than capital and credits. Great injustico is done those corporations which make their roturus according to law in ullowinz other companies to withold facts that should be included in their roturns, therefore { hope that notonly you but every assessor in the city will sce to it that no ef- fort is spared to securoa complete, honost ana equitable assessment of all corporations of this class. Another important class of porsonal prop- erty that has beon umiformly negiected is franchises, both public and private, you will note that under the law these are taxable and should be listed and valued 8s personal prgparl)'. ‘ou are required by law to actually view. ocach piecoor parcel of land to ba assessed, and to list that which is improved and that which is unimproved in separate columns. In order that I may make au honest return to the auditor, it is necessary that you ob- serve the law in reference to listing the above property in separate columns. You will observe thatupon the personal blanks herewith there is a place for the street and number of the location of the proverty. You will be particular and fill thisout 1 all cases. You will return to mo sparate and apart from your rogular personal sheets, a list of such personcl property as you may find in your precinct owned by persons residing in other precincts in this county., You will observe strictly the requirements of the law in regard co filing an account of the time you aro employed and also the time of any depu- ties you may employ. Theso instructions are not intended to amend or substitute the statute which your only authority, but are intended to aia you iu interpreting the sume and assist both you and myself in obtaining a fair, equitable, completo and intelligent assossment of all taxable property. Simiar instructions have been issued to the asscssors of the country precincts, Mr. J. Lane, general manager (ieorgin Southern and Florida railroad, says: “I was entirely rclioved of headache by Bradg- crotine in fifteen minutes. 1t is the only thing that relieves me after the pain com- mences.” This man is trying to joke his wife about her cooking ability. He says the household will suffer from dyspepsta. 1t a poor joke. Awmericans eat too much rich food, without taking advantage of natural an- tidotes to overcome the bad effects. Nobody wants to diet. It is a_natural desire to want to enjoy the good things in_this world, Read what a prominent New Yorker writes; he had been troubled with gouty rheumatism and its attendant painful symptoms for eighteen months : #1 have subjected myself for months to the severest rules of diet recommended for such conditions, and used almost all the remedies recommended for gout and rheumatism, without any benefit, until I heard of your imported Carlshad Sprudel Salts, which I used faithfully for six weeks, dieting for the first three weeks and afterwards eating almost an {nung 1 de sired, All the gouty and rheumatic symptoms left me after the foyrth week, nd my general health and spirits have become excellent once again,” You try them to-day. 1 The genuine have the signature of « Risner & Mendelson Co., Bole Agents New York,"” on the bottle, O,MAHA’ ; Manufacturers” and Jobbers” Directory LUMBER JOHN A, WAKEFIELD AWNINGS AND TEN OMAHA TENT & AWN- ING COMPANY, CHAS.
