Chicago, Ill, March 27.—~-The fifth infantry and a part of the seventh cavalry will soon be ordered to the Cheyenne and Ar- apshoe reservations, to clear the squatters off before the throwing | open of the reservations for settle- ment. These squatters have already located upon the choicest portions of the land in anticipation of the president's proclamation allowing whites to settle thereon Three years ago when the Okla- ettle ment there was a reign of terror in which men who rushed into that country found it necessary to pro tect their rights with rifles and re volvers. The government doves not intend that there shall be a repeti at the reservation until the rush is over, in sufficient numbers to pro- tect the rights ofall. The troops mentioned are now at Forts Sill,Re- no and Supply and can soon march into the land that is threatened with invasion. The office force at army headquarters here is busy filling out requisitions for rations, equippage, etc, in sufficient quantities fora long sojourn in the field. When the land office is opened the infant- ry will be massed at that point and repel all attempts at lawlessness.
